鈥淭his is an event that is enjoyed by not only the Catholic students of this University but by all students of all communities. This event promotes unity among students and provides a cultural experience to students of other religions. This Christmas celebration of our University started small. However, with every year the celebration developed in scale and today we are amidst a beautiful ceremony of a grand scale鈥� Professor Sampath Amaratunge, Vice Chancellor of the 91传媒 said at the event.
The 8th聽annual Christmas carol service 2017 themed聽鈥淧rimeiro Natal 鈥� The First Noel鈥�聽was held ceremoniously on the 11th聽of December 2017 at the Sri Sumangala Reading Hall from聽6.00 p.m.聽onwards. The event organized by the Catholic Students鈥� Movement of 91传媒 was graced by the presence of His Lordship Most Rev. Dr. Maxwell Granville Silva, Auxiliary Bishop of Archdiocese of Colombo.
Most Ven. Prof. Medagoda Abhayatissa Nayake Thero, President of our University Buddhist Association; Most Venerable Prof. Medagampitiye WijithadhammaThero, Head of the Department of Pali & Buddhist Studies of Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences; 聽Prof. Ajantha Dharmasiri, Director of Postgraduate Institute of Management; Dr. Praneeth Abeysundara from University Art Circle and Prof. (Ms). Chamalie Nahallage, Coordinator of University Harmony Project were also present at the event.
The reading room decked with lanterns and filled with Christmas decoration provided the necessary ambiance to bring the beauty of Christmas to the University. The carol, First Noel that themed the event dates back to its first publication in 鈥淐arols Ancient and Modern鈥� in 1823. The carol tells the story of the Birth of the Jesus Christ on Christmas day and the event of the three wise men arriving to the place of birth following the bright star.
The carol service amidst its festivities did not fail to convey the message of peace and harmony advocated by all religions in the world.
