The Diploma in Cosmetic Technology study program (SLQF 03) is enriched with a strong foundation of theoretical knowledge of nearly 390 hours of course work (26 theory credits) and 90 hours of practical classes, tutorials, industrial visits, mini-research projects, individual and group presentations etc.

Objectives of the Course

Target Group
Ideal for small and medium-scale cosmetic and beauty entrepreneurs, Cosmeticians, Cosmetologists, Beauticians, Candidates who are seeking to become an entrepreneur or expecting employment in the cosmetic and beauty industry, Interested officers from the government and private sector, Ayurvedic medical practitioners, Students from universities and tertiary education institutes, etc.

Eligibility Criteria
At least 3 passes in G.C.E A/L in one attempt or G.C.E O/L with three years of industrial experience in the relevant field or G.C.E O/L with successful completion of a certificate course in a relevant field or G.C.E O/L with successful completion of NVQF level 04 or any other related qualifications accepted by the senate
* The candidates will be shortlisted and selection will be done on an interview

Assessment procedure听
Formative Assessment

鈥 Mid-semester seminar presentation 鈥 10 % of the final grade
鈥 Industrial visit and report submission – 10 % of the final grade
鈥 Laboratory sessions, mini-project and reports submission – 20 % of the final grade

Summative Assessment

A written examination will be held at the end of the second semester and this will be contributed 60% of the final grade.

Exam Criteria听
The Diploma in Cosmetic Technology is awarded to candidates who obtain a minimum GPA of 2.0.

Duration: one (01) year

Course fee: Rs: 150,000.00听

Payment Plans
Course fee of Rs: 150,000.00 can be paid in two installments. The first installment (60% of the course fee) at the registration and balance payment within 03 months after the commencement of the diploma.
* In addition, the library fee, examination fee, registration fee should be paid at the time of registration.
Lectures and practical classes will be conducted on weekends

Mode of lectures: Physical and/or online (based on the preference of participants)

Medium: English/Sinhala

A special meeting was held on 28th October 2015 with the State Minister for Higher Education, Hon.Mohan Lal Grero and the officials of the University regarding the progress of the establishment of the Faculty of Technology at the University of Sri Jayawardenepura.

A discussion was held at length on acquisition of land, funds for construction of buildings, establishment of departments of study, recruitment of staff, degree programmes, course contents, and student in-take for the said faculty. Co-lead consultants of the Faculty of Technology, Prof.Kapila Perera and Dr.Ranjan Perera presented the progress in detail. The Hon.State Minister expressed his pleasure in witnessing the progress and promised that he will fully support the proposal. Speaking further on technological studies, Hon.Grero added that enhanced courses on technological studies will play a vital role for future generations as it can provide a wider range of employment opportunities. At present there are many students who can excel in various technology related fields and all they lack is a pathway in the country’s higher education system. In this aspect the Hon.State Minister complemented the University of Sri Jayawardenepura for coming forth with a vision and an eagerness to establish the Faculty of Technology.

The meeting was attended by the Vice Chancellor Prof.Sampath Amaratunge, all deans, the Registrar, the Bursar, the Librarian , Chairman of the advisory committee, the coordinator, co-lead consultants, consultants and senior lecturers of the proposed Faculty of Technology.

The 91传媒 has initiated work to establish a Faculty of Engineering and Technology, intending to produce knowledgeable, innovative and entrepreneurial Engineers and Technologists from a multitude of disciplines. The project is guided by an Advisory Board appointed by the Council of the University comprising the Vice Chancellor Prof. Sampath Amaratunge and Professors. D. A. Tantrigoda, M. M. Karunanayake, Ajith Abeysekara, Krishan Deheragoda and P.B. Mandawala. The Lead Consultant of the project is Prof. N.R. Arthenayake, who leads a team of recently recruited Senior Lecturers and Consultants in order to fulfill the task of developing the programmes in Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at the University.Programmes in Technology are being developed by a Team working under the leadership of Prof. Kapila Perera and Dr. Ranjan Perera, both of whom are senior academics from the Universtity of Moratuwa.

Faculty of Engineering and Technology

Engineering

As far as Engineering is concerned, it is intended to offer the degree of Bachelor of Science in Engineering, which will be on par with any other degree programme offered by the faculties of engineering in 91传媒. Curriculum of the degree programme will be carefully designed in conformity with the Washington Accord, which stipulates the requirements of nationally and internationally accepted standards of engineering education. Initially the Faculty will offer degree programmes in the major disciplines of 鈥淐ivil Engineering鈥, 鈥淐omputer Engineering鈥, 鈥淓lectrical and Electronic Engineering鈥 and 鈥淢echanical Engineering鈥. Students who follow these core areas of specialization will also be given the opportunity to follow a minor area of specialization such as 鈥淏io-medical Engineering鈥, 鈥淣ext Generation Networks Engineering鈥, 鈥淏uilding Services Engineering鈥, 鈥淢echatronics Engineering鈥, etc. This will not only allow an undergraduate to obtain the knowledge in an additional area of specialization but also to enhance the employment opportunities not only in the local industry but also abroad.

Technology

In the case of Technology, according to the Basic Framework approved by the UGC,the curriculum of the Technology Degree programmes are being developed to admit students in 2016 based on the G.C.E. A/LExamination in the TechnologyStream. The proposed Bachelor of Science Degree Programmes in Technology will be in the three major areas of Bio-Systems Technology, Information and Communication Technology and Engineering Technology. The University will be developing the curriculum in Engineering Technology as an Engineering Technologist degree programmeof 3+ years in compliance with the Sydney Accord. The universities have been requested by the UGC to develop the Curriculum in Engineering Technology according to the requirements and standards embodied in the Sydney Accord and are stipulated in the Accreditation Manual prepared by the Institution of Engineers, 91传媒.
