New Faculty of Engineering and Technology at 91传媒

The 91传媒 has initiated work to establish a Faculty of Engineering and Technology, intending to produce knowledgeable, innovative and entrepreneurial Engineers and Technologists from a multitude of disciplines. The project is guided by an Advisory Board appointed by the Council of the University comprising the Vice Chancellor Prof. Sampath Amaratunge and Professors. D. A. Tantrigoda, M. M. Karunanayake, Ajith Abeysekara, Krishan Deheragoda and P.B. Mandawala. The Lead Consultant of the project is Prof. N.R. Arthenayake, who leads a team of recently recruited Senior Lecturers and Consultants in order to fulfill the task of developing the programmes in Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at the University.Programmes in Technology are being developed by a Team working under the leadership of Prof. Kapila Perera and Dr. Ranjan Perera, both of whom are senior academics from the Universtity of Moratuwa.

Faculty of Engineering and Technology

Engineering

As far as Engineering is concerned, it is intended to offer the degree of Bachelor of Science in Engineering, which will be on par with any other degree programme offered by the faculties of engineering in 91传媒. Curriculum of the degree programme will be carefully designed in conformity with the Washington Accord, which stipulates the requirements of nationally and internationally accepted standards of engineering education. Initially the Faculty will offer degree programmes in the major disciplines of 鈥淐ivil Engineering鈥, 鈥淐omputer Engineering鈥, 鈥淓lectrical and Electronic Engineering鈥 and 鈥淢echanical Engineering鈥. Students who follow these core areas of specialization will also be given the opportunity to follow a minor area of specialization such as 鈥淏io-medical Engineering鈥, 鈥淣ext Generation Networks Engineering鈥, 鈥淏uilding Services Engineering鈥, 鈥淢echatronics Engineering鈥, etc. This will not only allow an undergraduate to obtain the knowledge in an additional area of specialization but also to enhance the employment opportunities not only in the local industry but also abroad.

Technology

In the case of Technology, according to the Basic Framework approved by the UGC,the curriculum of the Technology Degree programmes are being developed to admit students in 2016 based on the G.C.E. A/LExamination in the TechnologyStream. The proposed Bachelor of Science Degree Programmes in Technology will be in the three major areas of Bio-Systems Technology, Information and Communication Technology and Engineering Technology. The University will be developing the curriculum in Engineering Technology as an Engineering Technologist degree programmeof 3+ years in compliance with the Sydney Accord. The universities have been requested by the UGC to develop the Curriculum in Engineering Technology according to the requirements and standards embodied in the Sydney Accord and are stipulated in the Accreditation Manual prepared by the Institution of Engineers, 91传媒.
