Citizen Science Corner by the Center for sustainability of DFES, USJ launched at Diyasaru Park

Center for sustainability of the Department of Forestry and Environmental Science has launched its Citizen Science Corner at as another activity aiming to science popularization.

This collaboration of the of the opening of the 鈥淐itizen Science Corner鈥 at Diyasaru Park, Thalawathugoda aims to increase the engagement of ordinary people in citizen science鈥攑articipating in projects where volunteers and scientists work together to answer real-world questions. This Citizen Science Corner features a uniquely designed digital interactive panel where visitors to the park can learn about Colombo wetlands, their functions, flora, fauna and many more. The visitors and nature enthusiasts can further record their observations of faunal species into the central database in the Citizen Science Corner.

Diyasaru Park AKA Thalawathugoda Biodiversity Study Park is a wetland artificially built near the new Parliament Complex in Sri Jayawardanapura in a marshland. Park covers approximately 60 acres with artificial ponds and canals where you could see over 50 varieties of migratory birds, over 15 fish varieties including three endemics to 91传媒, and over 25 butterfly species. Diyasaru park is managed by the Wetland Management Division of 91传媒 Land Reclamation and Development Corporation

Regardless of the location and process, citizen science brings everyone into the important work of learning more about and protecting the planet earth. GEF, The GEF Small Grants Program, UNDP has funded and collaborated with the Center for Sustainability for making the Citizens Science Corner into a reality.
