The Inauguration Ceremony of the Wiki Club of the 91传媒 was held on 9th May 2018 at Faculty Board Room () from聽10 a.m.聽onward with the participation of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sampath Amarathunge, Editor and Administrator of Wikipedia Mr. Reheman Abubaker, Heads of Departments, Lecturers and student members of the Wiki Club. The University coordinator and the advisor of this Wiki Club is Dr. Shirantha Heenkenda of the in the FHSS.
The very first Wiki Page written by the Wiki Club members about the Most Ven. Weliwitiye Sri Soratha Thero in both Sinhala and English Languages was published by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Sampath Amaratunge at the ceremony.
Wiki Club is a student-centered, web-based, collaborative educational program to be introduced by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the 91传媒, and to be implemented in collaboration with the Wikimedia Foundation (WMF) centered in the United States of America.
The primary intent of the Wiki Club is to provide an online interactive experience that produces valuable educational and social benefits for students to enrich their skills, knowledge, and attitudes, moving beyond the traditional 鈥渟it, listen, and leave鈥 forums. Hence, Wiki-club offers students the opportunity to publish their manuscripts online with WMF. Thus, the Wiki Club of the university has the objectives to engross online in productively-critical discussions on the shared knowledge, facilitate an environment to enhance students鈥 literacy skills and knowledge, improve students鈥 soft, social skills and digital skills and promote collaboration and social interaction among students.
