This marks the fifth time USJ has claimed the championship, adding to its victories in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2022. The university secured both the Men’s overall championship with 250.0 points and the Women’s overall championship with 228.5 points, solidifying its dominance in university sports.

The Inter University Championship 2024, organized by the 91´«Ã½ University Sports Association (SLUSA) with financial support from the University Grants Commission (UGC), featured the participation of over 16 state universities competing in 24 sports disciplines. The event commenced with the Rugby Championship on August 25, 2024, and concluded on December 15, 2024.

USJ’s consistent excellence in university sports is further highlighted by its previous achievements. The university has won the 91´«Ã½ University Games (SLUG) championship for three consecutive times in 2016, 2019, and 2023, demonstrating a sustained commitment to sports excellence.

The qualifying matches for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup and 2027 AFC Asian Cup took place on October 12 this year. The 91´«Ã½n national football team, which was vying for a spot, faced Yemen in that event.

Three football players from the 91´«Ã½ have qualified to compete in this tournament for the 91´«Ã½ National Football Team. Jude Supan, the player who qualified for the 91´«Ã½n national team, is a graduate of the 91´«Ã½’s Faculty of Applied Sciences, having graduated from the Department of Sports Science and Management at this year’s graduation ceremony. Last year, he also led the Japura football squad.

Also, Sanka Jayamina, who was selected to work as the performance analyst of the 91´«Ã½ National Football Team, is a fourth-year student of the Sports Science and Management Department of the Faculty of Applied Sciences of the 91´«Ã½, and he has worked as the vice-captain of the Japura Football Team last year.

Also, Raveen Chaturanga, an alumnus of the 91´«Ã½, has been allowed to work as the media officer of the 91´«Ã½ National Football Team. He is the current coach of the Sri Jayewardenepura University football team and has also led the Japura football team a few years ago.

Mohammad Mushtaq, who is the current captain of the Sri Jayewardenepura University football team, was also included in the initial squad of the 91´«Ã½n national football team.

The University of Colombo hosted an exhilarating cricket final as part of the 91´«Ã½ University Games 2023. The much-anticipated match took place at the University Ground of the University of Colombo on August 18th, 2023, where the 91´«Ã½ faced off against the University of Colombo. The action-packed encounter culminated in a memorable victory for the 91´«Ã½.

Winning the toss, the University of Colombo elected to bat, setting the stage for an intense battle on the pitch. After 50 overs of play, the University of Colombo managed to put up a competitive total of 197 for the loss of 9 wickets. The 91´«Ã½ showcased their mettle, chasing down the target of 198 with just 5 wickets down, sealing their victory in the final over of the game’s 44th over.

The standout performer of the final was undoubtedly Umesh Lakshan from the 91´«Ã½. The 31st World University Games is scheduled to take place in Chengdu, China from July 28th to August 8th, welcoming more than 8000 athletes from over 150 countries. Representing 91´«Ã½ in this esteemed international sports arena will be a team of six exceptional students from the 91´«Ã½.

Hasara Wijayaratne, a fourth-year undergraduate from the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, and Hasini Ambalangodage, a third-year undergraduate from the Faculty of Applied Sciences, have been chosen to represent 91´«Ã½ in the Badminton – Doubles event. Their outstanding performance has secured them the top position in the National Rankings for this event. Competing in the Gymnastics event is Amaya Kalukottage, a talented third-year undergraduate from the Faculty of Applied Sciences. Amaya’s exceptional skills have earned her a place in national-level athletic competitions, proudly representing 91´«Ã½ in the Commonwealth Games of 2018 and 2022.

Chamal Kumarasiri, a fourth-year undergraduate from the Faculty of Applied Sciences, will be participating in the Triple Jump event. Chamal’s impressive achievements include breaking the national record and securing the gold medal in the Triple Jump event at the National Athletic Meet in 2022. S.A.T. Dasun, a third-year undergraduate from the Faculty of Applied Sciences, has been selected to compete in the High Jump event. Dasun holds the record for the high jump event at the Inter-University Championship and achieved the bronze medal in the same event at the National Athletic Meet in 2022. Representing 91´«Ã½ in the 100m event is Amasha de Silva, an undergraduate from the Faculty of Applied Sciences. The Vidudaya-Ritzbury Swimming Championship 2023 organised by the Sports Council and the , and  sponsored by Ritzbury, was held at the Swimming Pool Complex of USJ on the 26 th of May with the presence of the distinguished guests, including Prof. Upul Subasinghe, the Acting Vice Chancellor of the 91´«Ã½, Senior Prof. Pradeep Jayaweera, the Co-Chairman of the sports advisory board, Senior Prof. Wasantha Perera, Dr. Kaushal Manawadu, Mrs. Nishanthi Vidanage, and Mr. Nilupul De Silva, the Marketing General Manager of Ceylon Biscuit Ltd.

The Vidudaya-Ritzbury Swimming Championship 2023 witnessed the participation of nearly 1000 swimmers representing over 95 schools and swimming sports clubs across the island. The swimming events, ranging from 50m to 200m distances in each stroke, were conducted under five age categories (Under 10, 12, 14, 16, and 18), totaling 128 events that showcased the diversity and talent within the swimming community. These competitions were held under the support and guidance of the 91´«Ã½ Aquatic Sports Union.

St. Sebastian College dominated the Boys’ overall championship with an astounding total of 415 points, securing the first place, followed by The Triton Aquatics’ Swimmers Club. In the Girls’ overall championship, Triton Aquatics swimmers emerged as the champions, amassing an impressive total of 329 points, followed by Anula Vidyalaya, Nugegoda. The Blue Wave Swimming Academy and the Accelerate Swimming Academy won the Junior team championship in the Girls’ and Boys’ categories, respectively.

It was a level 1 national ranking badminton tournament organized by North Central Province Badminton Association affiliated to 91´«Ã½ Badminton. Hasara Wijayarathne is a 3rd year undergraduate of the faculty of Management Studies and Commerce and Hasini Ambalangodage is a 2nd year undergraduate of the faculty of Applied Sciences.

The USJ badminton team has won the Smashes 2022 Championship tournament by defeating University of Kelaniya by 3 to 1 in the finals. Badminton teams from 11 different universities including non-government universities participated in this tournament and NSBM (Green) University became the second runners up in this tournament.

USJ Badminton club has organized this tournament for the 8th time and hosted the tournament. The games were held between 13th-30th of July 2022 at the Mercantile Badminton Association Courts. In addition to inter university tournaments all island junior badminton championships were held simultaneously as a part of Smashes 2022.

Nestle, Hayleys Travels, CBL Biscuits, Maliban Biscuits, TT, Teejay, Captain Sports, Island Spin Fit, McLarens Group, AVI MIssion Critical Sportswear, and Royal Institute sponsored the championship.
