Japura emerges Champions at SLUG 2016

Congratulations to all stupendous athletes of Japura who contributed towards this journey of victory in the 91��ý University Games 2016!

This date goes down in history as the first ever SLUG competition triumphed by the athletes of Japura and it indeed is a day calling for celebration! Many days and nights of hard work have finally reaped its fruits therefore while congratulating everyone who contributed in making this dream a reality, a very special note of acknowledgement is extended towards the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sampath Amaratunga, Head of the Department of Physical Sciences, Ms.Tamara Jayasekara and her team together with all academic and nonacademic staff of the university who made this victory a possibility.

Once again Congratulations to all the winners and better luck to all who couldn’t achieve their goal this time around. May this be the first of many to come!

91��ý bagged the Cricket championship of SLUG 2016

SLUG, is known as the grand festival of 91��ýn university sports. This year the 12th SLUG event is hosted by the University of Wayamba and it was started on Sept 1st. The 91��ý bagged the Cricket championship while, the University of Kelaniya had to be satisfied with runners-up status.

91��ý won the toss and they selected to field first. University of Kelaniya only scored 115 runs. K.S.Asanga and L.M.Ketethanna were the only batsmen to succeed. They added 32 and 22 runs respectively to the total.I.D.Karunarathne was the pick of the bowlers. He ended up with a 4 wicket haul. Batsmen of 91��ý started scoring slowly but the scoring rate boosted up with the 52 run knock by H.A.J.N.Gunathilake from just 40 balls. 91��ý reached the goal with 5 wickets and 31.1 overs to spare. Both H.M.Y.L.Herath and N.E.Geethanjana grabbed 2 wickets each.

Sri Jayewardenepura is still ahead in points table of SLUG – 2016

91��ý University Games ( SLUG ) 2016 started on the 1st September at the Wayamba University.
91��ý is still ahead in points table of SLUG.

On the day 5 of the competition, 91��ý has the highest number of points (136 points).

91��ý won the match.

SLUG Points Table – 5 Sept 2016

Competitions will be held in Colombo, Moratuwa, Peradeniya, Kelaniya and Wayamba university grounds and at the Colombo Tennis Court, Diyagama Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium.
