Mr. R. Barathkanthan, a final-year student of the department of IT, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, won first place nationally in the Huawei ICT Competition 2022-23 (Cloud Track). The awards ceremony was held on 8th February 2023 under the patronage of the Hon. Minister of Education at Shangri La Hotel Colombo. Owing to the outstanding performances of USJ undergraduates, the team was selected to represent 91´«Ă˝ for the Asia Pacific Regional Finals of the Huawei ICT Competition in Indonesia in March 2023.

The team Comprises of Mr. R. Barathkanthan (Department of IT, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce), Mr. Hasitha Isuranga (Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering) and Ms. Nikita Fernando (Department of IT, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce) Prof. Lasith Gunawardena, (Department of IT, Faculty of Management Studies and commerce) will serve as the Team Instructor/Mentor.

The Flair club of USJ is organizing “Dhaara” – the voice personality competition to recognize, award and facilitate the brilliant artistic abilities of undergraduates who has born and developed talents in singing across the faculties of the University if Sri Jayewardenepura.

“Dhaara” is a novel experiment by the Flair club of USJ which is run under the Career Guidance Unit for making the best platform for USJ talented undergraduates and recognizing their best talents making their best platform. Further, the such platform encourages undergraduates to enhance their inborn artistic talents with the proper guidance getting from professional artists in order to acquire the right skills for the industry while enhancing their personality.

Dhaara is specially organized to award and felicitate the best undergraduates who have the best voices in singing. Thus, this amazing awarding ceremony paves the path to identify the undergraduates with hidden talents, from that unveil them into the world and encourages the undergraduates to be actively engaged in artistic activities to acquire the right skills and to be free of stressful personality.

Winners of the INFINTY season 3 has been announced. Team Dauntless of University of Moratuwa won the 1^st place, Team Deciders of University of Moratuwa became 1^st runners up and Team Stickers of University of Colombo became 2^nd runners up in this event organized by the Commers Society of Department of Commerce, Faculty of Management Studies and Commers, of USJP.

Amandi Fernando, Bevindu Dassanayake, & Thanuli Jayawardene competed for Team Dauntles-winners, Sachini Madhukala, Sashni Vindya and Sithumini Jayasekara competed for Team Deciders-1st runners up, and Viveka Ramamoorthi, Akeela Niyak & Raffath Razeed competed for Team Strikers-2nd runners up.

• The competition is open for all the undergraduates and postgraduates in the Faculty of Applied Sciences.
• This competition consists of 2 rounds. Individuals or groups with a maximum of 3 members are eligible to participate.
• All teams and individuals can be pre-registered via on or before 25th February 2022.
• In the 1st round, all individuals/teams should submit the application and all required materials via on or before 28th February 2022.
• Competitors should prepare an Idea Proposal (PDF format) adhere to the format given on the website about their innovation idea to be submitted with the application form.
• An introductory 3-minute video (.mp4 format) describing your idea when filing your application (Max. 30MB with resolution 720p) should be uploaded. It should describe your innovative idea briefly with relevant information of related field, practicability, procedure, resource requirements etc.
• Don’t insert any names and affiliations in the video.
• The above two files should be renamed using your name with initials (eg: HSK Perera). For the group, competitors should rename with initials of the group leader_G (eg: HSK Perera_G) For group competitions, only the group leader must submit the document and fill the application with the details of the group members.

All submissions will be judged by an expert judge panel from academia and industry. Competitors’ innovative ideas and concepts will be kept private and confidential. In the final round, the finalists will present their innovative idea followed by the Q&A session with the judging panel.

The judge panel will consist of four members, one judge member from the main sponsoring organization and another two judges will be from the lecturing panel of the Department of Commerce and remaining one is an industry expert relevant to our case problem.

Audience will be consisted of government and private university undergraduates, graduates, academics and the spectators joining through social media platforms in 91´«Ă˝.

Once complete all three rounds, the judges will select the most practically applicable solution for the 91´«Ă˝n economy. The final solution will be given to the government to put into action.

Hundreds of passionate individuals from state universities all across the island applied for the competition. Out of them the 10 most talented duets were selected by our respective panel of judges as the Top 10 finalists of Moves’21. Mr. Baskar Prakash, Miss Aseka Wijewardene and Mr. Gayan Srimal consisted of the respective panel of judges who carried out all the evaluations throughout the competition.

With respect to the health restrictions prevailed in the country, the grand finale of Moves’21 was held on a virtual platform on 30th October 2021. The occasion was officially hosted in the presence of Dr. Kalyani Karyapperuma, the Head of the Department of Business Administration along with hundreds of participants joining the event via Zoom and Facebook Live broadcast.

After a fierce fight between the Top 10 Duets, Ms. Mayumi Ishara from the 91´«Ă˝ and Ms. Umesha Sankini from the University of the Visual and Performing Arts secured the title of being the Champions of Moves’21.

Ms. Suwidinee Maheshika and Mr. Vimukthi Roshan from the University of the Visual and Performing Arts who were awarded as the runners up were also the Most Popular Duet of Moves’21 which was selected based of the votes received for the respective dancing videos on our official YouTube Channel.
