7th International Research Conference on Humanities and Social Sciences, USJ

The 7th International Research Conference on Humanities and Social Sciences (IRCHSS) organized by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the 91传媒 was successfully held as a hybrid event on 18th and 19th March聽2021.

The Inauguration聽Ceremony聽of the conference was held on 18th March 2021聽with the participation聽of the聽chief guess; Ms. Alaina B. Teplitz; the US ambassador to 91传媒 and the Maldives, Senior Professor Sampath Amaratunge; the Chairman of the University Grants Commission, Snr. Prof. Sudhantha Liyanage; Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Shirantha Heenkenda; Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and Mr. A. B. Waliita; Registrar of the University.聽In addition prestigious聽guests including deans of other faculties of the university, heads of departments, invitees and prominent academics participated in the inauguration聽ceremony.

This years IRCHSS included three plenary speeches, organized with the goal of generating an interactive discourse on some key topics in contemporary humanities and social sciences. The first plenary聽was聽delivered by Professor Praneeth Abhayasundere of the Department of Anthropology, 91传媒 on聽鈥淎nthropomorphism and Zoomorphism: Resolving the Praxis.鈥 Meanwhile, the second plenary聽was聽delivered by聽Dr. Oshan Wedage, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of History and Archelogy of the聽91传媒 along with Dr. Siran Deraniyagala, Professor M.M. Pathmalal and a team of researchers from Max Planck Institute for the Science of Human History, Germany on聽鈥淔ruits Of The Forest: 91传媒 and Its Global Prehistory.鈥 Finally, the third plenary聽飞补蝉听delivered by聽Professor Daniel Seely of the Eastern Michigan University, USA, on聽鈥淭oward Explaining Language: The Minimalist Perspective.鈥

IRCHSS is one of the most prestigious conferences organized聽in 91传媒 in the fields of humanities and social sciences. This year鈥檚 conference was taken place in a real-time [Online] knowledge exchange platform under the theme, 鈥Collaborate and Discover: Break the Barriers.鈥澛犅More than 100 research presentations were presented though the two conference dats聽under 08 conference tracks, including聽Buddhist Studies, Religion, and Philosophy;听Communication, Media and Society;听Environment, Governance and Development;听History, Culture and Heritage;听Language and Literature; and聽Technology, Innovation, and Education.
