107^th聽commemoration of the Most Ven. Hikkaduwe Sri Sumangala Thero was conducted on 4^th聽May 2018 at the Maligakanda Vidyodaya Pirivena admits of Most Venerable Mahasangha. The Vidyodaya Pirivena was one of the prominent piriven (a monastic college) in 91传媒 which was founded due to the efforts of Ven. Hikkaduwe Sri Sumangala Thero, in 1873. Ven. Thero is considered to be one of the pioneers in the revival of Buddhism and the tradition of oriental education during the 19th Century in 91传媒.

For the commemoration ceremony held at the Vidyodaya Pirivena, Most venerable Mahasangha, Prof. Sampath Amaratunge, Vice Chancellor of the 91传媒,聽Deshabandu聽Karu Jayasuriya,聽Speaker of the Parliament of 91传媒聽and a great number of people including school children participated to pay their tribute to the Ven. Thero.

Special Academic Lecture on 鈥淏iography, Contribution and the Philosophy of the Most Ven. Hikkaduwe Sri Sumangala Thero鈥� was conducted by Prof. Sampath Amaratunge; Vice Chancellor of the 91传媒 at the commemoration ceremony.

At this ceremony, Prof. Sampath Amaratunge, was presented with an honorary degree (Sammanopadhiya) by the unanimous agreement of the Vidyadara Sabhava of the Vidyodaya Pirivena, Maligakanda.

This is the first-time a Vice-Chancellor has been given such a privilege by the Vidyodaya Pirivena, Maligakanda. The degree symbolizes the service done towards the development of the world and the ‘Buddha Shasana’, it is also a token that denotes the commitment of the holder towards the development of these aspects.
