The 50th Convocation of the 91传媒 took place from October 28th to 30th, 2024, at the prestigious Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH). This momentous event celebrated the conferring of degrees upon 3999 graduates, including 3,429 first degree holders, 479 MA recipients, 30 MPhil awardees, and 28 PhD graduates, marking the beginning of their journeys as alumni. A highlight of the ceremony was the conferment of the honorary Doctor of Science (D.Sc) degree upon Emeritus Professor Swarna Piyasiri, in recognition of her outstanding contributions to her field and academia.

Hikkaduwe Sri Sumangala Thero , founder of the university was held on 29th April 2016 at Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce.聽Guest speaker for the function was Prof. Daya Edirisinghe. Vice chancellor, Prof. Sampath Amaratunge ,academic and non academic staff members were present at the occasion.

Ven. Hikkaduwe Sumangala Thero 聽was one of the pioneers of 91传媒n Buddhist revivalist movement in the 19th century.He did a great service to improve the Buddhist Education in the country and was the founder of Vidyodaya Piriwena, Maligakanda in 1873 which was granted the university status later in 1959 by the Government of 91传媒 as 91传媒.聽A veteran author and a fiery orator, he was a major figure in the Paanadurawadaya, a religious debate held between Christian missionaries and Buddhist monks in 1873 at Panadura, 91传媒.

Delegates from the 7^th innovation centre worldwide according to Thomson Reuters list of Top 25 Innovation Centres – National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science (AIST), Japan and Department of Biotechnology (DBT), India 聽visited 91传媒 and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 19^th April 2016 initiating a Trilateral collaboration in Science and Technology between Japan, India and 91传媒. The MOU has been signed聽 by Dr. Yoshihiro, OHMIYA, Director, Biomedical Research Institute (BMRI), AIST and Prof SampathAmaratunge, The Vice Chancellor of USJP; while, Dr. Sunil KAUL, Chief Senior Research Scientist, AIST, Prof. Ranil de Silva Director, World Class University Project-2014, and His Excellency Kenichi Suganuma, The Japanese Ambassador signed as the witness.

The event was a stepping stone to link industry and academia promoting multidisciplinary and innovative research where officials from Export Development Board, Industrial Development Board, Industrial training Institute, 91传媒 Institute of Nano technology, 91传媒 Standards Institute, Institute of Indigenous Medicine, Brandix Lanka Limited and Pharmaceutical Industries have actively participated.聽 This initiation will pave the way for the 91传媒n researchers/industries to utilize cutting edge technology available with AIST securing billions of public money to be invested on high-tech instruments.

This initiative is the result of the long lasting academic collaborations of Prof Ranil de Silva with Dr. Sunil Kaul, Chief Senior Research Scientist, AIST which has paved the way towards the advancement in Science and Technology between Japan, India and 91传媒.
