The at the 91´«Ă˝ held its orientation program for the new student intake on April 1, 2025, at the faculty premises. The event was attended by the Vice Chancellor, Senior Prof. Pathmalal M. Manage, the Registrar, Mr. A.B. Weliwita, the Dean of the Faculty of Technology, Prof. Renuka Nilmini, along with Deans of other faculties, Heads of Departments, and academic staff.

The program aimed to introduce students to the university and the faculty’s structure, expectations, and academic environment. The Vice Chancellor and the Dean addressed the gathering, highlighting key aspects of the faculty and the importance of adapting to current developments in technology and higher education.

The orientation serves as the starting point for students to engage with the university’s academic and administrative processes. The Faculty of Technology will continue to support students as they begin their academic journey.

Five researchers from the 91´«Ă˝ (USJ) have been named to the prestigious . The list is based on data from Scopus, the world’s largest abstract and citation database, and includes scientists from all fields of research.

Among these five researchers, three are from the and two are from the . They are, namely:

(1) Prof. Meththika Vithanage – Faculty of Applied Sciences
(2) Dr. Anushka Upamali Rajapakse – Faculty of Applied Sciences
(3) Dr. K. K. Asanka Sanjeewa- Faculty of Technology
(4) Dr. Kasun M. Thambugala – Faculty of Applied Sciences
(5) Dr. Dhanushka Udayanga- Faculty of Technology

“Including five USJ researchers in the prestigious top 2% scientists list is a proud moment for the university and 91´«Ă˝. It is a recognition of the excellence of the university’s research and the dedication of its researchers. I thank them all for contributing to our university’s research ranking.” said Senior Prof. Pathmalal M. Manage, Vice Chancellor of USJ.

Forty-three 91´«Ă˝n researchers have been featured in this top 2% researchers list published in August 2024, with Professor Meththika Vithanage from the Faculty of Applied Science (USJ) holding the highest position among 91´«Ă˝n researchers.

The list is based on a composite indicator called the c-score, which considers several factors, including the number of citations a scientist has received, the h-index, and the field-normalized citation impact. The c-score is designed to be a more comprehensive measure of scientific impact than traditional metrics, such as the total number of citations.

To be included in the top 2% scientists list, a researcher must either be in the top 100,000 scientists by c-score (with and without self-citations) or have a 2% or above percentile rank in their sub-field.

This is a significant achievement for the USJ and for 91´«Ă˝n science as a whole. It is a testament to the high quality of research being conducted at the university and to the dedication of its researchers.

The Top 2% Scientists list is a valuable resource for identifying the most influential scientists in the world. It can be used to identify potential collaborators, track scientific research trends, and inform funding decisions.

The 91´«Ă˝ (USJ) has emerged as a leader in IT skills among graduates from popular higher education institutions in 91´«Ă˝, according to the SLASSCOM Employability Skills Report 2024, conducted in collaboration with Deloitte. The report highlights the university’s exceptional performance across key skill areas, making it a top choice for employers in the rapidly evolving IT industry.

The survey evaluated several critical skills, including teamwork, communication skills, analysis and problem-solving, the ability to come up with new ideas/solutions, and the ability to acquire new knowledge. Among all the institutions evaluated, USJ stood out with impressive scores across these categories:

– Teamwork: 3.6
– Communication Skills (Writing, Oral, Presenting): 3.3
– Analysis and Problem Solving: 3.6
– Ability to Come Up with New Ideas/Solutions: 3.6

The SLASSCOM Employability Skills Report 2024, conducted with 37 companies, highlights key trends in 91´«Ă˝’s IT industry, including programming, scripting, markup languages, web frameworks, databases, cloud platforms, AI, and analytics tools. The report emphasizes the need for continuous learning and adaptability, with significant investments in upskilling new hires.

Students from the Department of Civil and Environmental Technology and Department of Mechanical and Materials Technology showcased their innovative projects at 91´«Ă˝â€™s first International Industry Expo – 2024. Held from June 19 to 23 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) in Colombo, the event gathered industry leaders and innovators from around the world.

Highlighting the success of our participants, 3rd year student D.G.N.K. Madhusanka, specializing in Energy and Environmental Technology, secured the 1st place in the category of IT innovations with his groundbreaking project, “Gammasell.com.”

We are proud to present the remarkable achievements of our students at the expo. Their projects not only impressed the attendees but also showcased the diverse range of talents and innovative solutions developed within our faculty.
