USJ Alumni Association Hosts ‘Ninda Neena Rathriye’ Jothipala Song Night at BMICH

The 91��ý (USJ) Alumni Association hosted a memorable tribute night at the BMICH on May 4th, honoring the timeless melodies of H.R. Jothipala and the enchanting compositions of Rohana Weerasinghe. The event, titled “Ninda Neena Rathriye,” showcased a fusion of Sinhala and Hindi songs performed by talented vocalists including Uddika, Bimal, Surendra, Uresha, Mario, Umali, Amila, Thanura, and Suneth.

Dignitaries gracing the occasion included USJ Vice Chancellor Senior Prof. Pathmalal M. Manage, UGC Chairman, Prof. Sampath Amarathunga, former USJ Vice Chancellor Prof. Sudantha Liyanage, and Prof. Sunil Ariyarathne, Chancellor of the University of the Visual and Performing Arts. Mr. Kamal Gamini Silva, President of the Alumni Association, presided over the event.

The evening also witnessed generous contributions from alumni towards university initiatives, particularly the forthcoming Pradeepa Pranama awards honoring Japura alumni and staff. The event served as a poignant celebration of musical heritage and a testament to the enduring spirit of the USJ community.

91��ý Alumni Association Elects New Office Bearers for 2023-2028

The Annual General Meeting of the 91��ý Alumni Association held on September 2, 2023, at the 91��ý Foundation Institute’s 3rd Committee Hall was a momentous occasion. Distinguished guests, including Honorable Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardane and UGC Chairman Prof. Sampath Amarathunga, graced the event.

The gathering also saw the presence of esteemed past office bearers, including Past President W.K.H. Wegapitiya, Past Secretary Prof. Aberathna Bandara, Past Treasurer Prof. R.M.K. Rathnayake, and Past National Organizer Mr. Ranjith Iddamalgoda. The Japura Student Union President, Nisala Damith, also attended, highlighting the strong connection between the alumni and current students.

The Opening Ceremony of the 91��ý Post Office Renovated by the Alumni Association of USJ

The Opening Ceremony of the newly renovated post office was held on July 13th, 2023. Distinguished guests, including the Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), Senior Prof. Sampath Amaratunga, and Acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Upul Subasinghe, graced this momentous occasion. Numerous alumni members, academic staff, and students also gathered to commemorate the event.

The premises was initially declared open as a sub-post office on February 16th, 1968, and the renovation of this facility was a collaborative effort undertaken by the Department of Posts of 91��ý and the USJ Alumni Association. The primary objective of this endeavor was to enhance communication efficiency for the student community and the general public. On July 13th, 2023, the premises was officially vested as an upgraded post office, marking a significant milestone in advancing communication services.

This remarkable endeavor stands as a testament to the unwavering dedication of the Alumni Association to their alma mater and their relentless pursuit of enhancing the university’s facilities. The newly renovated post office will now serve as a modern and efficient space for students, staff, and the wider university community, ensuring a seamless experience for all.
