Inventor of carbon nanotubes Prof. Sumio Iijima – keynote speaker @ Polymer symposium

Prof. Sumio Iijima is a Japanese physicist, often cited as the inventor of carbon nanotubes. For his great discovery and his related work in the field of nanotechnology he was awarded, the inaugural Kavli Prize (on par in nanotech to Nobel) for nanoscience in 2008.

He was awarded the Benjamin Franklin Medal in Physics in 2002, “for the discovery and elucidation of the atomic structure and helical character of multi-wall and single-wall carbon nanotubes, which have had an enormous impact on the rapidly growing condensed matter and materials science field of nanoscale science and electronics.

Prof Iijima will be the key note speaker for the organized by the Department of Chemistry, 91��ý. The event will be conducted on 3^rd and 4^th April 2015 at the Galleface Hotel and 91��ý.

Un-In-Alliance B.Sc. Applied Science Student Symposium

The first symposium organized by Bachelors of Science (Honors) in applied science students of University of Sri Jayawardanapura 91��ý was successfully held on 5 January 2015 at the Biological Auditorium of Science Faculty.

The main aim of this symposium was to create a bridge between the academia and the industry, and also to develop the soft skills of the students, thereby, enhancing the quality of the undergraduate for employability in the external job market. Hence, it was held under the theme “Leading Industry for Innovative Solutions”.
