The University of Colombo hosted an exhilarating cricket final as part of the 91传媒 University Games 2023. The much-anticipated match took place at the University Ground of the University of Colombo on August 18th, 2023, where the 91传媒 faced off against the University of Colombo. The action-packed encounter culminated in a memorable victory for the 91传媒.

Winning the toss, the University of Colombo elected to bat, setting the stage for an intense battle on the pitch. After 50 overs of play, the University of Colombo managed to put up a competitive total of 197 for the loss of 9 wickets. The 91传媒 showcased their mettle, chasing down the target of 198 with just 5 wickets down, sealing their victory in the final over of the game’s 44th over.

The standout performer of the final was undoubtedly Umesh Lakshan from the 91传媒. His exceptional innings of 102 runs from 115 balls, including 8 fours and 2 sixes, played a pivotal role in securing the championship title. Sheran Fonseka’s unbeaten 38 runs from 73 balls also played a crucial role in guiding the 91传媒 to victory. The grand finale, held at the Colombo Racecourse, saw an epic clash between 91传媒 and their rivals, University of Kelaniya. The stakes were high, with 91传媒 aiming to reclaim the championship title lost in the previous Inter-University Championship of 2022. The history between these two teams added an extra layer of intensity, having faced off four times before, with University of Kelaniya securing victory in three of those encounters.

From the very start, the match was a showcase of unparalleled speed, strength, and skill from both teams. The opening moments saw Daham Perera from the 91传媒 team making a stunning breakthrough, scoring the first try of the match. Their successful conversion added two more points to the board. However, the Kelaniya players were determined to make their presence felt, retaliating with a try that leveled the scores. Just as the tension escalated, Malsha Pathum, a key player from the Japura team, seized an opportune moment to score another try right before the first half concluded. SLUG an event held in every three years organized by 91传媒 Universities Sports Association (SLUSA), which is also known as the 91传媒 University Olympic Game.

The Torch relay of SLUG 2016 reached 91传媒 on 30th August 2016. 聽The torch was handed over to our athletes by those of the University of Moratuwa and it was then passed onto the athletes of the University of Visual and Performing Arts.

This relay commenced on 26th August from the University of Jaffna and it will reach the University of Wayamba 鈥� Kuliyapitiya on the 1st September for the lighting of the cauldron during the Opening Ceremony of SLUG 2016.
