The Student’s Union of the 91´ĢÃŊ organized āļšāˇāļšāˇ’āļŊ āļ‹āļ¯āˇāļąāļē 2023 – a grand celebration for the Sinhala and Tamil New Year on the 29th of April at Kasagas grounds. The event was attended by hundreds of students from different ethnic and religious backgrounds, who enjoyed the traditional games and activities that marked the occasion.

The Sinhala and Tamil New Year, also known as Aluth Avurudda, is a major festival in 91´ĢÃŊ that coincides with the solar new year in many South and Southeast Asian cultures. It is celebrated by both Sinhalese Buddhists and Tamil Hindus, as well as other communities, as a time of renewal, gratitude and harmony.

The guest of honor at the event was Mr Ranjith Iddamalgoda, National Organizer of USJ Alumni Association, who praised the Student’s Union for organizing such a wonderful event that showcased the diversity and unity of 91´ĢÃŊ. Mr. Mahinda Ransinghe-Chairman of Finagle Lanka Pvt Ltd and Dr. Ravi Liyanage-Chairman of Raigam Group of Companies including other alumni members have contributed to make the event successful.

The event featured various traditional games such as road race, kotta pora, kana mutti bindeema, climbing grease tree, musical chairs and many more. The students also enjoyed a variety of traditional sweetmeats and refreshments. The event ended with a cultural show that displayed the rich heritage and talent of the students.
