The 91传媒 (USJ) hosted its prestigious Research Awards ceremony for the years 2021-2023 on Friday, November 22nd, 2024, at the Golden Rose Hotel, Boralesgamuwa. The event recognized outstanding contributions to research and academic excellence across multiple disciplines.

In his opening address, Vice Chancellor Prof. Pathmalal Manage highlighted how the university’s commitment to research excellence has significantly contributed to USJ’s rising prominence in international rankings, including Times Higher Education (THE), QS World University Rankings, and Webometrics. Prof. Manage emphasized the direct correlation between research output and the university’s global standing.

Guest of Honor, Prof. Sampath Amaratunge, who initiated this awards program in 2014, expressed satisfaction at how the event has evolved to become a cornerstone of USJ’s academic calendar. He noted the impressive growth in both the quantity and quality of research outputs over the past decade.

A highlight of the evening was the presentation of the prestigious Vice Chancellor’s Awards, presented in two streams: Science, and Social Sciences & Humanities. These awards recognize researchers who have demonstrated exceptional contributions to their respective fields over the past five years.

The Early Career Researcher Awards celebrated promising academics under 40 who have shown outstanding research potential, maintained consistent publication records in top-tier journals, and achieved a minimum Scopus h-index of 10.

The awards recognized excellence across several categories, including:

In a glittering ceremony at the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Memorial Exposition Centre of the BMICH, Colombo 07, the prestigious President鈥檚 Awards for Scientific Research (PASR) for publication years 2019 and 2020 were held on November 21, 2023. The event, organized by the National Research Council (NRC), aimed to honor the brilliance of authors and inventors whose work showcased scientific significance during these two years.

A remarkable 36 scientists from the 91传媒 (USJ) clinched the coveted PASR for their outstanding contributions to research. This event, an annual tradition since 1999, is a testament to the commitment of the NRC in building a vibrant scientific and technological community in 91传媒.

The PASR program conferred a total of 598 awards to 485 scientists, emphasizing the crucial role science plays in shaping the nation’s future. This national honor, bestowed by the President of 91传媒, underscores the significance of the efforts of these scientists in advancing the frontiers of knowledge. The 91传媒’s Research Awards Ceremony 2020, organized by the Research Council, was held at the Golden Rose Hotel on March 18, 2022. Senior Prof. Sudantha Liyanage, Vice-Chancellor of the University, and Deans of all 10 Faculties and members of the Research Council and academic staff members attended.

At this prestigious annual event, 200 awardees were recognized for their contributions to a research publication in ten categories, including national and international conferences, peer-reviewed, indexed journals, and high-quality research.

This Research Award system consisted of ten categories in which eligible candidates were given cash prizes, certificates, and souvenirs. The faculty member with the highest h index received a special prize following a rigorous review process. The Early Career Researcher Award was given to the Best Researcher under 40 years of age. The Vice Chancellor’s Award was given to the University’s Best Researcher.

]]> Research Awards Ceremony of 91传媒 was held at Hotel Golden Rose, Boralesgamuwa on 29th September 2017. The 听awards were given away for the research work carried out in the year 2016. Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sampath Amaratunge graced the occasion as chief guest.

Prof. M.M.Pathmalal, Professor in Zoology won the most prestigious Vice Chancellor’s award, and听 Dr. J.M.K.C. Jeewandara attached to Family Medicine won the earlier career Award at this Ceremony.

Initiated in 2015, the Annual Research Awards Ceremony is a much awaited occasion in the university wherein the academia is recognized and awarded for their groundbreaking findings and outstanding excellence in the field of research. This colorful occasion was undeniably a memorable one, not only for the winners but also the entire university, as it marks another milestone in the university鈥檚 history.

Apply Now for Research Awards

Staff members in the permanent service in 91传媒 in the year 2016 can now apply for Research Awards 2016. Deadline for the submission is 18th August 2017.

Award Categories are as follows

  1. An abstract published in a local conference proceedings or symposium
  2. An abstract published a foreign conference proceedings or symposium
  3. A full paper published in a conference proceedings
  4. A full paper published in a refereed journal
  5. A full paper published in any index journal
  6. 6. A full paper published in an Indexed Journal
    Recognized Index journals are listed at听听under:

    • Science Citation Indexed Expanded (鈩) (Web of Science)
    • Social Sciences Citation Index庐 (Web of Science)
    • Arts and Humanities Citation Index (Web of Science)
  7. Researchers having the highest citations for the year (Three awards for each Faculty)
  8. Researchers having the highest h-index for the year (Three awards for each Faculty)
  9. Departments having the highest cumulative h-index for the year (Three awards per each Faculty)
  10. Departments having the highest average h-index for the year (Three awards per each faculty)
  11. Early Career Researcher award (Researcher has to be less than 40 years)
