2nd Biennial International Symposium 2015 on Polymer Science & Technology In Collaboration with Industries, Institutes & Universities (IIUPST 2015)

The 2nd Biennial International Symposium 2015 on Polymer Science & Technology in Collaboration with Industries, Institutes & Universities organized by the Department of Chemistry, 91´«Ă˝ was successfully held on 3-4th April 2015 under the theme “Providing innovative solutions for a better tomorrow” .

We are pleased to have had a large group of well-known government bodies, academic professionals and industrial experts at the inauguration ceremony. More than 250 delegates participated at the theme seminar session held at Galle Face Hotel, Colombo. It paved the way to a perfect start to the symposium.

The Honorable Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Research Dr. Sudarshani Fernandopulle graced the event as the Chief Guest. The direction of the symposium was established early by the keynote speaker of the theme seminar, Prof Sumio Iijima- the discoverer of the carbon nano-tubes. Invited speakers of the theme seminar Prof Gehan Amaratunga, Prof Peter Edwards, Prof Lakshman Andradi, Prof Dagmar Měřínská, Prof Suranga Nanayakkara, Prof Roshan Mayadunne, Mr. Ranil Vitharana,  Prof Laleen Karunanayake and Dr. Gamini Senevirathne addressed the symposium by sharing their  inspiring and thought provoking perspectives. The presentation from Prof Veranja Karunaratne, the keynote speaker of the symposium dinner highlighted polymers in a changing world.

The technical session of the symposium was held at the 91´«Ă˝ on 4th April 2015. The session was initiated by an inspirational speech by the session keynote speaker Prof Ajith de Alwis.  Dr. Upul Ratnayake, Dr. Dilru Ratnaweera and Mr. Arindam Ghosh, the invited speakers had shared their experiences and ideas during the plenary sessions.

The symposium was elegantly brought to an end with the “AL student workshop” on 5th April 2015. The invited speakers Prof. Sudantha Liyanage, Dr. S. D. M. Chinthaka, Dr. M. A. B. Prashantha and Dr. Pahan Godakumbura addressed the session.

We believe that the symposium offered a great opportunity for the national and international polymer community to emphasize their research work and to discuss the latest ideas, discoveries, challenges and innovations with a broad spectrum of professionals. The event, which featured excellent remarks by professionals, marked that IIUPST2015 was a highly successful and excellent event. Please note the coverage given by the Daily FT on
