Senior Professor Samanchandra Ranasinghe from the Department of Languages, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, delivered an inspiring speech titled “喾�喾掄动喾�‍喽亨窂喾�喽亨窉 喽氞督喾忇穩喽亨窉” (Meaning “The Essence of Knowledge”). His address emphasized the transformative power of education and its role in shaping society.

Recognizing the diversity among the student body, Dr. Sivayini Kandeepan, Senior Lecturer from the Department of Physics, Faculty of Applied Sciences, presented a summary of the inaugural session in Tamil. This gesture underscored the university’s commitment to inclusivity and cultural harmony.

The inaugural session of the Orientation Programme of batch 2021/22 of the Faculty of Urban and Aquatic Bioresources was held from April 3 2023, at the Senate Board Room of the University. Senior Prof. Sampath Amaratunge, Chairman/University Grants Commission graced the occasion as the Chief Guest of the Ceremony.

The orientation program for its new students ran from 3rd to 6th of April 2023 as three-day event. The program aimed to introduce the students to the faculty’s vision, mission, academic programs, facilities, and activities.

The first day of the program – The inaugural session – was held at the University Senate board room, where the students were greeted by the chairman of University Grant Commission Prof Sampath AmarathungaThe event was also attended several distinguished guests including Prof. PD Nimal, Acting Vice-Chancellor and Dean/Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, Senior Prof. Pradeep Jayaweera, Dean/Faculty of Urban and Aquatic Bioresources, respective Deans of other Faculties of the University, the Librarian of
the University, the Registrar of the University, Directors of Centres and several other officers attended this important event. Students enrolled for the degree programmes in Aquatic Bioresources and Urban Bioresources of the Faculty together with their parents attended the ceremony. The Orientation Programme was coordinated by Dr. Erandi Pathirana, Head/Department of Aquatic Bioresources.

The second and third days of the program were held at Sri Sumangala auditorium, where the students also had a chance to interact with their seniors and mentors, who shared their experiences and advice on how to succeed in their studies. The program concluded with a cultural show, where the students enjoyed some entertainment and socialization with their peers and faculty members. The program was well-received by the students, who expressed their gratitude and enthusiasm for joining the faculty of Urban and Aquatic Bioresources.

Welcome Ceremony & Orientation Program of the Faculty of Engineering held online on 27th of February 2023. The ceremony was held at the Faculty of Engineering of the University and was attended by the Acting Vice Chancellor of the 91传媒; Prof. S M C U P Subasinghe, the Registrar of the 91传媒; Mr.A.B. Weliwita, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering; Dr. P.M.T. Bandara, and other academic members of the faculty.

The Faculty of Engineering, 91传媒, is the latest addition to the Faculties of Engineering in the state Universities coming under the purview of the University Grants Commission. Established in January 2016, it consists of fi颅ve Departments of Study with a mandate to offer study programmes in Engineering, and in particular an undergraduate study programme in Engineering leading to the award of the degree of the 鈥楤achelor of the Science of Engineering鈥�.

Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, 91传媒 accomplished the student鈥檚 orientation programme for the 2020/2021 batch on the 21st聽and 22nd聽of March 2022. This programme was virtually conducted over the zoom platform broadening the capacity of the faculty toward online education.

The inauguration ceremony was conducted with the participation of the Senior Prof. Sudantha Liyanage, Vice Chancellor, Prof. P.D. Nimal, Dean, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, and other members of the academic and non-academic staff of the 91传媒. It was followed by a pragmatic session conducted by the senior academics of the faculty to make the undergraduates aware of the virtual learning environment. In addition, Mr Supun Weerasinghe, a prominent faculty alumnus delivered a motivational speech to inspire the undergraduates to achieve the best in university life.

On the second day of the Orientation Programme, the undergraduates were engaged in a number of inspiring informative sessions conducted by senior academics of the faculty. Also, the supportive services and programmes namely the student support services, student welfare facilities, student disciplinary procedure, sports and physical education opportunities, library facilities and student career guidance were introduced by the respective units to make undergraduates further familiarized with the setup.

Expanding the horizon of virtual environment-related activities,聽 the final day of the students鈥� orientation programme conclude聽 with a talent show and a cultural flare creating a platform for the new 2020/2021 batch to display their aesthetic talents with senior students and prominent 91传媒n artists.
