Professor Priyake Palipana has assumed duties as the Dean of the Faculty of Dental Sciences at the 91´«Ã½.

He obtained his Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the Faculty of Dental Sciences, University of Peradeniya, and later pursued his Master’s Degree at the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine (PGIM), University of Colombo. During his overseas training, he was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (FRACDS), Australia. In 2024, he was honored as one of the inaugural Fellows of the College of Dentistry and Stomatology, 91´«Ã½.

He served in the Department of Health Services as a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry for over two decades. He later joined the Faculty of Dental Sciences at the 91´«Ã½ as a founding member.

With more than 20 years of experience, he has served as a trainer and examiner for both undergraduate and postgraduate dental programs. A well-respected figure in the field, Professor Priyake Palipana is a sought-after resource person at dental forums locally and internationally. His academic contributions include numerous publications in indexed and peer-reviewed journals.

In addition to his academic and clinical roles, he has served the 91´«Ã½ Navy as an Honorary Consultant since 2004.

Prof. Upul Subasinghe was re-elected as the of the for the second consecutive time at the Board Meeting of the respective faculty, held under the chairmanship of Senior Prof. Pathmalal M. Manage, Vice Chancellor of the 91´«Ã½.

Prof. Upul Subasinghe graduated from the 91´«Ã½ with an Honours Degree in Botany and later joined the Department of Forestry and Environmental Science as a lecturer. He earned his Ph.D. in Forest Management from the University of Bangor, UK. Additionally, he won scholarships from the Asian Development Bank to study Remote Sensing and GIS in Thailand and received a Commonwealth Fellowship at the University of Bangor. He has also conducted joint research with experts from Curtin University and Edith Cowan University in Western Australia, as well as the World Wildlife Fund. Since 2021, he has been serving as an Environment and Disaster Management Program Associate at the World Wildlife Fund, Washington, DC, USA.

Prof. Subasinghe has held several key administrative positions at the 91´«Ã½, including Head of the Department of Forestry and Environmental Science, Coordinator of the MSc Program in Forestry and Environment, Deputy Proctor of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, and Chairman of the Faculty Research Committee. He also served as the Managing Editor of the Journal of Tropical Forestry and Environment (2013-2016) and Editor-in-Chief of the Vidyodaya Journal of Science (2018-2021). Notably, he served as the Acting Vice Chancellor of the university from December 2022 to August 2023.

Beyond academia, Prof. Subasinghe has contributed significantly to various national and international committees. He was elected as the President of the Institute of Biology, 91´«Ã½, for the 2007-08 period and has served as a trained Forest Certification Auditor for the Forest Stewardship Council. He has also chaired the Expert Committee on Forest Certification under the 91´«Ã½ Accreditation Board for Conformity Assessment. His expertise has been instrumental in initiatives such as the United Nations Programme on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation, the Haritha Lanka National Action Plan, the Ecosystem Conservation & Management Project, and the Forestry Sector Master Plan Preparation. He also led the development of Forest Certification Standards stipulated by the Forest Stewardship Council for 91´«Ã½ during the 2019-20 period.

Additionally, Prof. Subasinghe has been actively involved in international collaborations, serving as the President of the Institute of Biology, 91´«Ã½ (2006-07), Chair of the International Forestry and Environment Symposium (2014, 2018-2022), and a Director of the Taiwan Agarwood Society since 2013.

His re-election as Dean underscores his continued commitment to the advancement of the Faculty of Applied Sciences and the broader academic and research community.

Professor Prasad M. Jayaweera, currently serving as a Professor of Computer Science at the 91´«Ã½, brings experience to his new role. An affiliated member of the SYSLAB laboratory at the Department of Computer and Systems Sciences, Stockholm University and Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden. Prof. P.M. Jayaweera earned his B.Sc. honors degree in Computer Science from the University of Colombo in 1995. He subsequently completed his Ph.L. and Ph.D. degrees at the Department of Computer and Systems Sciences, Stockholm University, and the Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden in 2002 and 2004, respectively.

Recipient of a Commonwealth Academic Fellowship, Prof. P.M. Jayaweera conducted research at the Informatics Research Centre, University of Reading, United Kingdom. His research work on process modeling, process patterns, and electronic commerce system design has been widely published at national and international forums. Prof. P.M. Jayaweera has actively participated in various research projects through both local and international collaborations.

Previously, he served as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Research Center in Information Systems Engineering, Faculty of Computer Science, University of Namur, Belgium, in 2008, and at SYSLAB, Department of Computer and Systems Sciences, Stockholm University and Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden, in 2007.

Outstanding Academic Attainment:

Prof. Manori Gamage , from the first batch of medical undergraduates of FMS/USJ, obtained her MBBS with First Class Honors from USJ in 1998 obtaining 09 Distinctions and 03 gold medals including Prof. M.T.M Jiffery Gold medal for the best student.

Bringing glory to the newly established Faculty of Medical sciences, she became first in the all island common merit list prepared by the UGC in 1998. Later she obtained MD (Paediatrics) & DCH (COL) from PGIM – University of Colombo in 2005 and was board certified as a Consultant Paediatrician in 2007.

Specialized Medical Training:

After completing her overseas training for two years in UK she got MRCPCH (UK) in 2008 followed by FRCPCH (UK) from Royal College of Paediatrics & Child Health (UK) in 2020.

Academic Leadership and Teaching Excellence:

In 2002, Prof. Manori joined the Department of Paediatrics, Faculty of Medical Sciences as a probationary lecturer and became a senior lecturer in 2007. She became the head of the Department of Paediatrics in 2016 and promoted to the post of Professor (Merit) in Paediatrics in 2022.

She received the staff award for Excellence in teaching from FMS at the 91´«Ã½ in 2021.

She is the 1st alumnus who was appointed as the Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, 91´«Ã½.

The 91´«Ã½ proudly announces the appointment of Professor P.P.Rasika Perera as the new Dean of the , effective November 13, 2023. A distinguished scholar in Clinical Biochemistry, Prof. Rasika Perera brings a wealth of expertise and a stellar academic background to his new role.

Prof. Rasika Perera obtained his MBBS with Honors from USJ in 1998 and later earned a PhD in Biochemistry from the same institution in 2009. His commitment to advancing knowledge in his field is further demonstrated by his active membership in esteemed professional organizations, including the Forum for Ethics Review Committees of Asia and the Western Pacific (FERCAP), the Association of Clinical Biochemists of India (ACBI), and The College of Biochemists of 91´«Ã½, among others.

With a specialization in Clinical Biochemistry and Nutritional assessment, Prof. Rasika Perera has been recognized for his outstanding contributions. In 2021, he received the Staff Award for Excellence in Teaching from the Faculty of Medical Sciences at the 91´«Ã½.

Dr. Dushan Jayawickrama was elected as the new Dean of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce by the faculty members at the faculty meeting held on 24th May 2023. He will officially assume his duties on 29th May 2023.

Dr. Jayawickrama is currently the Head of the Department of Marketing at USJ. He is also an alumni of the university, having completed his Bachelor of Science Special degree in Marketing Management and his Master of Science in Management degree from USJ. He obtained his PhD Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne, Australia.

Dr. Jayawickrama has over 15 years of academic and industry experience in marketing, branding, and consumer behavior. He has published several research papers in reputed journals and presented at international conferences. He has also been involved in several consultancy projects for public and private sector organizations.

As the Dean of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, Dr. Jayawickrama will oversee the academic and administrative affairs of one of the largest faculties in USJ, which offers 12 undergraduate and 16 postgraduate programs in various fields of management and commerce.

Prof. Deepthi Inoka Uluwaduge has been appointed as the new Dean of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences at the 91´«Ã½ from 23rd March 2023. She assumed duties at a ceremony attended by Acting Vice Chancellor Prof. S M C U P Subasinghe, Founder Dean, Prof. D M S Fernando, the Registrar of the University Mr.A.B. Weliwita, and other academic and non-academic members of the faculty.

Prof. Inoka Uluwaduge graduated from the Faculty of Medical Sciences, 91´«Ã½ with B Sc (Honours) in Human Biology specializing in Biochemistry. She joined the Department of Biochemistry and Clinical Chemistry, Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya, Ragama as a probationary lecturer in 2000. She completed her PhD in Biochemistry at the 91´«Ã½. In 2008 she joined the Department of Health Sciences, Faculty of Medical Sciences, 91´«Ã½.

Since then, Prof. Uluwaduge has contributed in many ways to the University.  She had been a coordinator of the B Sc in Medical Laboratory Sciences Degree Programme, Founder head of the Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences, Founder Head of the Department of Basic Sciences, coordinator of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (2019-2021), Faculty of Allied Health Sciences and the faculty representative of the University Cooperate Plan (2019-2021). As the founder chairperson, she was committed in establishing, the Ethics Review Committee for Animal Studies (ERC-AS) of the Faculty of Graduate Studies. During her recent sabbatical leave, she served as the founder Head and Professor of the Department of Biochemistry and Clinical Chemistry and pioneered in establishing the Faculty of Medicine, University of Moratuwa.
