An agreement was signed between the State Ministry of Rattan, Brass, Clay, Furniture, and Rural Industry Promotion and the Department of Marketing Management (DMM) on the 7th of October 2021 in the State Minister Office.

The agreement would facilitate cooperation in the transfer and exchange of knowledge and expertise of the Department of Marketing Management towards the achievement of the objectives of the Ministry holding Marketing Promotions at the centre of focus. This is mainly for promoting selected entrepreneurs in the nation to uplift them to cater the both local and international markets with a novel approach.

The Secretary of the ministry and the Head of the department were held responsible for implementing the activities that were proposed by the DMM under the agreement.

The State Minister of Rattan, Brass, Pottery, Furniture and Rural Industrial Promotion, Hon. Prasanna Ranaweera’s participation was acknowledged at the signing ceremony together with Mr. M.A.B.V. Bandaranayake, Secretary. Mr. A. Lakkathas, Additional Secretary, Mr. A.F.Arif, Director (Vidatha) Mr.U.K.B.L.Priyadarshana, Director (Development), also joined hands representing the Ministry. Mr.Sampth Erahapola, the Chairman of the National Craft Council also stood thereby taking part in the ceremony.

Representing the 91传媒, Senior Prof. Sudantha Liyanage, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. P.D. Nimal, Dean, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, Prof. (Ms) Amila Jayarathne, Head, Department of Marketing Management, Senior Prof. Neville Warnakulasooriya, Prof. Lalith Chandralal, Prof. (Ms). Asoka Malkanthie, Coordinator of the project 聽and Dr. (Ms). Sandamali Galdolage participated in signing the agreement.

At the signing ceremony, both party representatives expressed their satisfaction at the signing of the Agreement, with the expectation of enhancing the overall quality of the achievement of the objectives of the agreement.

The Department of Marketing Management being one of the leading and innovative departments in the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce of the 91传媒, launches a new venture by establishing a Business Incubator Center, Digitalized Library and a Language Center. All these centres are funded the World Bank ELTA/ELSE project which was a competitive grant won by the Department of Marketing Management.聽

A Business Incubator Center provides a Model Business which is a platform for undergraduates to practice theories learned in the classroom in a real business context. The profit of the business will be used for students鈥 co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. The Digitalized Library and the Language Center brings undergraduates one step closer to the digitalized learning including enhancing English Language Skills and it acts as a knowledge hub where undergraduates can make use of the resources productively to learn and explore things related to the academic activities. The Digitalized Library and the Language Center is in a full air-conditioned space that provides students a comfortable ambiance and is equipped with fifteen desktop computers, while providing access to e- books/resources, contemporary software needed for modern marketing context, softcopies of the outstanding research thesis, and for many more self-learning facilities.聽

The opening ceremony of the Business Incubator Center, Digitalized Library and a Language Center was held on 20th Thursday 2020. The event was graced by Dr. Kalum Gamage – Director of AHEAD project of the University, Prof. Amila Jayarathne – Head of the Department, Ass. Prof. Asoka Malkanthie – Coordinator of the Project, Mr. Aminda Lakmal, Mr. Harsha Tissera- Activity Coordinators, and the academic staff of the Department, office bearers of the Marketing Management Association which is the official student body of the Department, and the students of the Department. The students are committed to make the best use of the property and this will surely add an uncountable value to the Department and the future generation to come.

91传媒 Tourism Promotions Bureau (SLTPB) announced that a formal Memorandum of Unerstanding (MOU) is being developed with the Marketing Management Unit of the 91传媒 to promote 91传媒’s toirism industry.

Chairman of SLTPB Rohantha Athukorala announced that MOU, which is a first in the history of 91传媒 tourism, is being developend for marketing research insights to be done by final year business students of the University which will enable the tourism industry become more competitive in the global arena.

Athukorala together with Vice Chancellor of 91传媒 Prof. Sampath Amaratunge announced this at a press conference held at Hotel Taj Samudra to launch the International Inter- university 91传媒n City Romp 2015.

According to the Chairman, the logic of the MOU as explained was due to the rapid change that is happening in the global arena on the area of digital marketing.

For instance 23.2 million people googled 91传媒 tourism related searches in 2014 but 91传媒 had only 1.5 million visitors while Trip Advisor had reported that they had 54 million information searches on 91传媒 in 2014 which indicates the conversion success rate for 91传媒.

“We must get smart in our communication strategy and model needs to be recommended by the best minds of 91传媒 in a university like Sri Jayewardenepura so that we link the private sector to the think tanks of the country said,” Dr. Athukorala.

“Let’s accept it we do not know everything in the world of Tourism, someone needs to help us,” he said adding that it was the advice of the Minister for Tourism Naveen Dissanayake who had advocated the MOU.

The Vice Chancellor Prof. Sampath Amaratunga said that he is glad this kind if mind set exists in the government and this is the best practice globally.

“In fact in the final year the best talents get picked by the private sector where we act as an incubator the world stage. We are looking for award to working with the 91传媒 Tourism Promotions Bureau,” he said.
