This marks the fifth time USJ has claimed the championship, adding to its victories in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2022. The university secured both the Men鈥檚 overall championship with 250.0 points and the Women鈥檚 overall championship with 228.5 points, solidifying its dominance in university sports.

The Inter University Championship 2024, organized by the 91传媒 University Sports Association (SLUSA) with financial support from the University Grants Commission (UGC), featured the participation of over 16 state universities competing in 24 sports disciplines. The event commenced with the Rugby Championship on August 25, 2024, and concluded on December 15, 2024.

USJ’s consistent excellence in university sports is further highlighted by its previous achievements. The university has won the 91传媒 University Games (SLUG) championship for three consecutive times in 2016, 2019, and 2023, demonstrating a sustained commitment to sports excellence.

Sri Jayewardenepura University player S. A. T. Dasun set a new tournament record in the 2022 inter-university championship games in the high jump event held on November 27th, 2022 at the Sugathadasa Stadium.

Competing in the high jump event of the athletics section, Dasun set a new tournament record with a jump of 2.14 meters, breaking the previous record of 2.06 meters.

Dasun, a second-year undergrad of the Faculty of Applied Sciences of Sri Jayewardenepura University has been making a name for himself in the world of athletics for some time now. In 2018, he won the boys high jump event at the South Asian Junior Athletics Championship with a jump of 2.04 meters. This win marked his first international win and earned him a spot in the Asian Games held later that year in Japan. At the Asian Games, Dasun placed 8th, proving that he was a force to be reckoned with on the international stage.

Keshan Pathirana set a new record in men鈥檚 shot put with 13.27 meters distance record which broke the previous inter university games record of 13.23 meters and set a new record in Men鈥檚 Discus Throw with the distance of 42.90 meters.

Lahiru Keshan Pathirana is a second-year student of the Faculty of Applied Sciences of the University. Lahiru was also able to set a new record in the 47th Inter Provincial Games held on December 2022 representing Sabaragamuwa Province. Lahiru set a new record for Men鈥檚 Shot Put with the distance of 13.96 meters breaking previous record of 13.91meters in the same event. Lahiru was able to match the previous record of him-self in Men鈥檚 Discus Throw in the inter provincial games.
