The Faculty of Engineering, 91传媒, organized an event called “Mezclar 2023” on 30th March at the Grand Ballroom, Marino Beach, Colombo. The event aimed to bridge the gap between industry and academia and foster collaboration between the two sectors.

Dr. Thilaksiri Bandara, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, welcomed the guests, and the guest of honour, Prof. Upul Subasinghe, the Vice Chancellor, addressed the gathering. The chief guest, Minister of Industries, Hon. Dr. Ramesh Pathirana, also delivered a speech, highlighting the importance of policies that foster sustainable economic growth with industry and academia.

Throughout the day, industry leaders and academic experts shared their experiences and insights, forging new relationships and strengthening existing ones between academia and industry. The event featured sessions themed on the key areas of collaboration, where industry leaders along with academic experts presented at each session. The main industry partner for the event was Hayleys Energy Services Lanka (Pvt) Ltd.

The event also showcased the impressive and skilled students of the Faculty of Engineering, who gave outstanding performances. The event was well attended, well received, and considered a success by all involved.

The Faculty had identified key areas where industry and academia have the potential to collaborate. Owing to the name ‘Mezclar,’ the Faculty has already established collaborations that will lead to many future projects. Mezclar has paved the way for the Faculty to continue bridging the gap between industry and academia, fostering collaboration, and achieving sustainable economic growth.

The MoU was signed on December 9^th, 2022 at the 91传媒 in the presence of Vice Chancellor of the 91传媒, Senior Prof. Sudantha Liyanage, chairman of SLASSCOM Mr. Ashique Ali, vice chairman Nishan Mendis, board director Arjuna Nanayakkara, general council member/capacity forum lead Dhammika Marasinghe, the programme manager capacity forum Thathsara Kalubowila , executive director Chamind膩 de Silva, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Computing Prof. Prasad Jayaweera, Senior Prof. Gayan Meegama, registrar of USJ Mr. AB Welivita and senior lecturer Mr. Dilum Perera.

The USJ willing contribute to promoting IOI brand by providing both students and academics as volunteers for SLASSCOM research activities, center of excellence initiatives, advisory boards and other SLASSCOM initiatives. Moreover, the USJ commit to incorporate SLASSCOM feedback on the USJ curriculum i.e., depth and breadth of curriculum coverage and tailor it to suit industry requirements. The goal is to produce employable students in both technical and professional skills to enable a 鈥榝uture ready workforce鈥�. SLASSCOM commits to extend their support to USJ in rolling out the IOI brand awareness and engagement activities while providing and facilitating industry placements for academia based on mutually agreed terms and conditions.

The prime objective of this initiative is helping in embedding the IOI value proposition, capabilities and competencies in 91传媒鈥檚 information technology and BPM talent pool. The USJ conducts undergraduate and post graduate degrees relevant to Information Technology and BPM industry and is committed to producing talented employable graduates of a world class standard having both technical and core professional skills. Towards this end SLASSCOM has drawn up a university cooperation proposition to provide industry support and foster University Collaboration.

Highlighting the significance of the initiative, the chairman, is more than happy to collaborate with USJ, as it is a timely demanding and critical requirement to keep the academia-industry ecosystem for surviving the current and future challenges and appreciated the USJ鈥檚 preparedness to support the National Future Talent Initiative (NFTI) program to accelerate the talent growth of the IT and BPM sector

Nelumbo Natura and Sri Jayewardenepura University jointly improved Clay products are officially released with confirmation for usability of humans and are in the process of releasing them to the market in the future and MOU between Nelumbo natura and Sri Jayewardenepura University was signed on 8th of August 2022 for further product development.

This collaboration will enhance the opportunity of the usage of domestically available raw materials and products for Nelumbo Natura’s product line and minimize the usage of imported raw materials.
