The inauguration ceremony for the MSc in Data Science & Artificial Intelligence degree program took place on Saturday, March 23, 2024. The event was attended by key figures including Prof. Rasika Perera, Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies at USJ, and Prof. Upul Subasinghe, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences. Dr. Chitraka Wickramarachchi, Coordinator of the MSc program, also graced the occasion alongside enrolled students. The ceremony marked an important milestone in the academic landscape, signaling the commencement of an innovative program poised to equip students with essential skills in data science and AI. As the field continues to evolve and expand, such initiatives play a crucial role in preparing future professionals for the demands of the digital era.

The inauguration ceremony for Master of Philosophy in Business Economics, Master of Science in Business Economics and Master of Business Economics programmes successfully held on 28^th of March at Senate Boardroom of 91´«Ă˝ in a hybrid board.

The Inauguration ceremony was graced by, Senior Professor (Chair) of Business Economics Sampath Amarathunga- Chairman of University Grants Commission, Senior Prof. Sudantha Liyanage – Vice-Chancellor of USJ, Senior Prof. M. M. Pathmalal – Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, Prof. P. D. Nimal – Dean of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, Senior Prof. R. G. Ariyawansa – Chairman of Board of Study in Management, Prof. Saman Yapa – Chairman of Board of Study in Business Studies, Mr.A.B. Welivita- Registrar of 91´«Ă˝,Prof. P.J. Kumarasinghe- Head of the Department of Business Economics Prof. M.S.S. Perera- Coordinator of Master of Philosophy in Business Economics, Dr. P.J.S.Fernando- Coordinator of Master of Science in Business Economics and Master of Business Economics programmes and Mr. J.A.P.M Jayasekara- Managing Director of Lanka Walltiles PLC. Moreover the Postgraduate Lecture Panel, Academic staff of the Department of Business Economics and Students of 2022 new batch participated for this event physically and virtually.

After  Prof. M.S.S. Perera welcomed the guests for the ceremony, Dr. P.J.S. Fernando introduced the Posgraduate Programmes to the students while emphasizing the quality of the learning process.Dr. P.J. Kumarasinghe, Head of the Department of Business Economics highlighted the significance and timeliness of learning Business Economics in the prevailing situation.

Prof. P.D. Nimal- Dean of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce elaborated on the contribution of the faculty for the generation of qualified intellectuals for the corporate world as well as for 91´«Ă˝n economy.

Senior Prof. Sudantha Liyanage – Vice-Chancellor of USJ highlighted the need of Economists for a country to nurture its economy with effective strategy implementation. Adressing the gathering Senior Professor (Chair) of Business Economics Sampath Amarathunga- Chairman of University Grants Commission focused the attention on the role of students for the betterment of country’s economy.

Mr. J.A.P.M Jayasekara the Managing Director of Lanka Walltiles PLC delivered the key note speech for the session highlighting the importance of active contribution of graduates for the policy making and implementation.

After felicitating the Guest of Honor- Senior Professor (Chair) of Business Economics Sampath Amarathunga and the Key Note Speaker- Mr. J.A.P.M Jayasekara with Tokens of Appreciation the conclusion of the session remarked with the promise of delivering fruitful academic journey for the new batch of 2022.

With the prime vision of  prosper lives through learning, Department of Business Economics of 91´«Ă˝ introduced Postgraduate Degree Programmes in Business Economics back in 2020. With the ever-growing demand for the field of Business Economics three degree programmes are now being offered under Postgraduate Degree Programmes in Business Economics.
