The 50th Convocation of the 91传媒 took place from October 28th to 30th, 2024, at the prestigious Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH). This momentous event celebrated the conferring of degrees upon 3999 graduates, including 3,429 first degree holders, 479 MA recipients, 30 MPhil awardees, and 28 PhD graduates, marking the beginning of their journeys as alumni. A highlight of the ceremony was the conferment of the honorary Doctor of Science (D.Sc) degree upon Emeritus Professor Swarna Piyasiri, in recognition of her outstanding contributions to her field and academia.

The Chancellor, Most Ven. Dr. Ittapana Dhammalankara Thero, shares a heartfelt message with the graduates, wishing them all the best and urging them to utilize their newfound knowledge and skills to make a positive impact on the world. Meanwhile, the听Vice-Chancellor, Senior Professor M.M. Students from the Department of Civil and Environmental Technology and Department of Mechanical and Materials Technology showcased their innovative projects at 91传媒鈥檚 first International Industry Expo – 2024. Held from June 19 to 23 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) in Colombo, the event gathered industry leaders and innovators from around the world.

Highlighting the success of our participants, 3^rd year student D.G.N.K. Madhusanka, specializing in Energy and Environmental Technology, secured the 1^st place in the category of IT innovations with his groundbreaking project, “Gammasell.com.”

We are proud to present the remarkable achievements of our students at the expo. Their projects not only impressed the attendees but also showcased the diverse range of talents and innovative solutions developed within our faculty. The Diploma in Cosmetic Technology study program (SLQF 03) is enriched with a strong foundation of theoretical knowledge of nearly 390 hours of course work (26 theory credits) and 90 hours of practical classes, tutorials, industrial visits, mini-research projects, individual and group presentations etc.

Objectives of the Course

Ideal for small and medium-scale cosmetic and beauty entrepreneurs, Cosmeticians, Cosmetologists, Beauticians, Candidates who are seeking to become an entrepreneur or expecting employment in the cosmetic and beauty industry, Interested officers from the government and private sector, Ayurvedic medical practitioners, Students from universities and tertiary education institutes, etc.

Eligibility Criteria

At least 3 passes in G.C.E A/L in one attempt or G.C.E O/L with three years of industrial experience in the relevant field or G.C.E O/L with successful completion of a certificate course in a relevant field or G.C.E O/L with successful completion of NVQF level 04 or any other related qualifications accepted by the senate

* The candidates will be shortlisted and selection will be done on an interview

Course Content

Assessment procedure

Formative Assessment

• Continuous assessments from each course module 鈥� 10 % of the final grade
• Industrial visit and report submission – 10 % of the final grade
• Laboratory sessions, mini-project and reports submission – 20 % of the final grade

Summative Assessment

A written examination will be held at the end of the second semester and this will be contributed 60% of the final grade.

Exam Criteria

The Diploma in Cosmetic Technology is awarded to candidates who obtain a minimum GPA of 2.0.

Duration: one (01) year

Course fee: Rs: 200,000.00

Payment Plans

Course fee of Rs: 200,000.00 can be paid in two installments. The first installment (60% of the course fee) at the registration and balance payment within 03 months after the commencement of the diploma.

* In addition, the library fee, examination fee, registration fee should be paid at the time of registration.

Lectures and practical classes will be conducted on weekends

, 91传媒 has received two awards at the Institution of Engineers (IESL) techno2023 exhibition and competition held at BMICH from October 20^th to 22^nd. This exhibition organized by the IESL, 91传媒 made a platform for groundbreaking innovations and a showcase for technological advancements. Techno-2023, International Technology and Engineering Exhibition is an exhibition for all construction and allied Industries stakeholders. Techno 2023 is one of the largest platforms in 91传媒 to mingle and exchange ideas for the mutual benefit of almost all the parties related to Engineering and Technology ().

In a remarkable achievement, Mr. T.G.C. Madusanka, an MPhil student from the Faculty of Technology, won first place in the Inventor Promotion Zone under the university category. His innovation was a “Mycelium-Based Biodegradable Packaging Material”. This revolutionary solution showcases Mr. Madusanka’s ingenuity and emphasizes the university’s commitment to sustainable and eco-friendly practices. 91传媒 fully funded this project for the principal investigator Dr. Dhanushka Udayanga and a team comprising Prof Renuka Nilmini, Dr. Suranga Rajapaksha, and Dr Choolaka Hewawasam, from the Faculty of Technology.

Mr. H.G.C. Dilshan, a third-year undergraduate student from the ICT department of the Faculty of Technology, won third place in the Inventor Promotion Zone. His project was a “Citizen Identification System Using Image Processing”. His project not only showcases the technical knowledge of our students but also highlights the practical applications of technology in addressing real-world challenges.

The award ceremony was held at the Wimalasurendra Auditorium, IESL on 22^nd of December 2023.

Dr. P.A Koliyabandara delivered the welcome address, setting the tone for the conference. The opening remarks shed light on NORPART, the Norwegian Partnership Programme for Global Academic Cooperation, emphasizing the significance of international collaboration in academic pursuits.

The Dean of the Faculty of Technology, 91传媒, shared insights in an address, highlighting the importance of the conference theme. The third International Conference on Innovation and Emerging Technologies () took place on November 23rd-24th, 2023, hosted by the at the 91传媒. The conference, held under the theme “Sustainable Technologies for Economic Resilience,” provided a dynamic platform for experts and innovators to share insights into smart technologies across diverse fields.

Adding to the academic prestige, Senior Professor Sampath Amarathunga, Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), and Senior Professor Pathmalal M. Manage, Vice-Chancellor of the University, graced the conference with their presence. The deans of faculties at USJ also actively participated.

Distinguished keynote speakers graced the event, including Senior Professor P.B.R. Dissanayake, a leading figure in civil engineering and the President of the Institution of Engineers in 91传媒. Dr. Ajantha S. Atukorale, Director of the University of Colombo School of Computing and President of the Computer Society of 91传媒, also shared valuable perspectives.
