91传媒听wishes to express their deepest sympathy in regards to the death of 听Prof. D Senevi Epitawatta, Former Vice Chancellor of the 91传媒 who has passed away today (2 September 2017) at Jayewardenepura Hospital .

Dr. D.S. Epitawatta served as the Vice Chancellor of the 91传媒 from October 2002 to December 2003. He was also a former Dean of Faculty of Arts and Head of the Department of Geography.

Prof. Epitawatta was a Professor attached to Department of Geography. He obtained his PhD from University of Sheffield in UK. He has conduced on Biogeography and related fields. He was an Excellent teacher and good communicator. He participated as a TV presenter and involved in dissemination of Environment conservation message to the general public and students. One such program was his participation in the documentary produced by National Television on 听Sinharaja Forest. He has authored several text books on Geography to A/L students and University students.

He has also served in Central Cultural Fund and Post-graduate Institute of Archaeology (PGAIR).

His听remains听lie at 103/27, Samarapala Perera Mawatha, Boralesgamuwa.听The funeral will take place on 4 September, 2017 at the Boralesgamuwa Cemetary at 听4.30 pm.听

The Indian delegation were welcomed by the Vice Chancellor Prof.Sampath Amaratunge, commenting that exchange programmes of this nature will not only boost the relationship between the academic domains of India and 91传媒, but also expose students to a wider world where knowledge keeps improving faster. The Registrar – Mr.G.Britto, Dean, faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences – Mr.Lasantha Nawarathna, Head, Dept. of Geography – Prof.Sunethra Tennakoon and other staff member of the department were also present.

Prof.Anaga Dicholkar lead the Indian students who took part in a conference where 10 research papers were presented.

The Asia-Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum (APRSAF) was established in 1993 to enhance space activities in the Asia-Pacific region. Space agencies, governmental bodies, and international organizations, such as the United Nations, as well as companies, universities and research institutes from over 30 regional participants took part in APRSAF, the largest space-related conference in the Asia-Pacific region. With increasing attendance of high ranking officials, furthermore, APRSAF offers opportunities to discuss international cooperation for space activities in concrete terms.
APRSAF currently organizes four working groups: Earth Observation (EO), Communication Satellite Applications (CSA), Space Education and Awareness (SEA), and Space Environment Utilization (SEU), to share information about the activities and the future plans of each country and region in the respective areas.
