Applications are now called for the Master鈥檚 Degree in Entrepreneurship Program 2024-2026 organized and conducted by the Department of Entrepreneurship of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce and the Faculty of Graduate Studies of the 91传媒.

Medium of Instructions

Master of Entrepreneurship (M.Entr.) programs will be conducted in English with brief explanations in Sinhala and papers will be given only in English.

Entry Qualifications

• A Special Bachelor鈥檚 Degree with a Class or General Bachelor鈥檚 Degree with a First Class or Second Class (Upper Division) from a recognized University with 2 years of relevant experience.
• A Bachelor鈥檚 Degree from a recognized University and 3 years executive or managerial level experience.
• Postgraduate Diploma or a Higher Degree from a recognized University with 2 years of relevant experience
• Completion of NVQ level 7.
• A professional qualification approved by the Senate of the University.

The Department of Entrepreneurship has planned 鈥淏usiness Fair 2016鈥� together with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce with the aim of supporting businesses in the SME sector by developing a platform to discuss problems they face related to their businesses with government and private sector organizations which are providing business development support services for SMEs.

The Business Fair 2016 is planned to be held on聽15^迟丑听and 16^th聽of May 2016 鈥撀�9.00 a.m. to 9.00 p.m. at the University Premises. Through this event, it is expected to make school students and university students aware about Entrepreneurship. Further, participants can obtain information and services of institutions which are providing services for businesses and solve problems related to their respective fields. This will enhance the knowledge and importance of entrepreneurship among the young population and the business community of the country.

Business fair 2016 is a groundbreaking event, which will make responsive the SME sector in the country in developing the businesses, as the sector considers as the backbone of the national economy. The following objectives will be achieved by implementing the Business Fair 2016.

• Solving problems of SMEs in the nation and ensure the highest contribution to the economy of the sector.
• Support people who are willing to start their own business and make them aware about public and private sector organizations which support SMEs.
• Make the school students and university undergraduates aware about the importance of entrepreneurship to the economic development of the country.

Business fair 2016 will be a good opportunity for every person who runs their own business as well as to the people who start their own business and those who need the support of institutions which provide services for business development. The Department of Entrepreneurship organized a study visit to the Institute of Modern Services of聽Zhejiang Shuren University, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province, China and visited Canton Fair, Guangzhou, China from 08^th April to 18^th April, 2016. This was organized as an academic component of Master of Entrepreneurship Program. Mr. R.N. Weerasinghe, Head-Department of Entrepreneurship and Dr. Janak Kumarasinghe, Senior Lecturer – Department of Business Economics, guided 22 Masters鈥� students.

The first part of the visit was scheduled for an academic program organized by the Zhejian Shuren University which includes two industrial visits from 08^th to 12^th of April 2016. 聽From 13^th onwards, the group visited Canton Fair, one of the world largest import and export exhibitions.

Both students and academics of the group were benefitted with the visit through;

1. Signing a memorandum of understanding between two universities aiming at students and staff transferring, research collaboration and exchanging both staff and students between two countries for mutual benefits.
2. Obtaining international exposure on entrepreneurial education, global businesses and entrepreneurial management practices in a different context.
3. Understanding economy, politics, culture and the business practices of China.
4. Building effective networksbetweenboth universities and with industries in China.
5. Enabling Masters鈥� students to engage in international businesses with Chinese firms exhibited in Canton fair.
6. Recognizing the Chinese way of leading markets through radical and incremental innovations in many areas.
7. Opening new pathways to effectively run local businesses through experiences accumulated.

There were fruitful discussionswith the President, Vice presidents and International Manager of the Zhejian Shuren University about long term collaboration among two universities. Both parties agreed to share the facilities, staff and the students. TheDepartment of Entrepreneurship highly appreciates the service rendered by Zhejian Shuren University and its staff including the Dean and Deputy Dean of the Institute of Modern Services.

Further, Dr. Anura Kumara (Dean, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce) Mr. Rukmal Weerasinghe (Head- Department of Entrepreneurship) Mr. Shyaman Udayanga (Former Head, Department of Entrepreneurship), Mr. Neelakanth Wanninayaka (Chief Executive Director- ISB), Academic Staff Members of the Department of Entrepreneurship and聽 Staff Members of聽 ISB participated for the event.

This MoU was signed with ISB, with the aim of build up a strategic alliance between both organisations while sharing Management expertise, knowledge, experience and strengths of both organizations, in order to provide comprehensive service package for the benefit of Small and Medium Sector Entrepreneurs. It is expected to exchange the practical knowledge and the theoretical knowledge through the collaboration of the academia and the industry specialists.
