Background

Companies are launching initiatives to improve their operations and offerings through data-driven techniques and this is not an exception to 91´«Ă˝. Hence, a greater demand has been created for skilled Data Scientists. Development of talent and capabilities is needed if DS and AI is to reach its full potential throughout 91´«Ă˝. However, companies report that finding the right talent is the biggest hurdle. Unless national capacity in skilled DS and AI personnel increases in the coming decades, these initiatives will go in vain. 91´«Ă˝ is well positioned to capture opportunities through adoption of DS and AI technology, if sufficient human resources are prepared. Therefore, the development of appropriate educational programs to build skills in Data Science and AI is important.

°Őłó±đĚýMSc in DS and AI at USJ was designed in partnership with the Erasmus+ DS and AI consortium, a group of 15 European and Asian organizations with the mission of bringing European-standard advanced education to Asia. The aim of the MSc is to provide advanced courses and guidance in developing research skills necessary to develop innovative new data-driven technologies.

The medical center of the 91´«Ă˝ (USJ) becomes the first-ever medical center in a higher education institute of 91´«Ă˝ to benefit from the Hospital Health Management Cloud Service adoption. HHIMS is yet another product from the Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) of 91´«Ă˝, that was deployed at the Medical Center of USJ in collaboration with the Department of Computer Science (DCS) of USJ. This HHIMS adoption allows the medical center to enjoy a bunch of benefits through its service enhancements. These include fully-fledged Electronic Health Record (EHR) services ranging from Patient Registrations, Appointment Queue Management, Diagnosis and Prescriptions in compliance with global standards for disease classifications, symptom registrations etc. The treatment processes of patients and associated healthcare workflows have been streamlined and automated on HHIMS platform.

The ceremonial launch of the system was held under the patronage of (Chairman of the University Grant Commission), Prof. Sudantha Liyanage (Vice-Chancellor of USJ), (CEO of ICTA), (Director of Health Information at Ministry of Health), Senior Professor A. Aloka Pathirana (Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences of USJ)   and (Head & Professor of Computer Science of USJ) and many other distinguished guests, on the 7th of December at the Medical Center of USJ.
