An economic forum was organized by the Research Center for Business Economics and Development Studies of the Department of Business Economics on the theme 鈥淐onfronting the Economic and Political Crisis in 91传媒: Priorities for Transformation鈥� on 26^th August 2022 virtually via Zoom.

It was the second event which was organized to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the Department of Business Economics. Eminent resource persons addressed the theme from different perspectives. The panelists of the forum were Dr. Indrajith Coomaraswamy (Former Governor, Central Bank of 91传媒), Dr. W.A. Wijewardene (Former Deputy Governor, Central Bank of 91传媒), Prof. Premachandra Athukorala (Professor in Economics, Australian National University), Dr. Dushni Weerakoon (Executive Director, Institute of Policy Studies) and Mr. Shiran Fernando (Chief Economist, The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce). Mr. Nisthar Cassim (Founder and Editor/CEO of DailyFT) moderated the economic forum.

This forum was expected to enrich ongoing discussions on 91传媒鈥檚 economic and political turmoil.

The conference was the first event held in line with the 20th-anniversary celebrations of the Department.

The inauguration ceremony of the conference was held at the Senate Board Room, USJ. The Keynote Speaker for the event was Prof. Shantha Devarajan, Professor of the Practice of International Development, Georgetown University, United States of America.

Senior Prof. Sampath Amaratunge (Chairman, UGC) and Professor (Chair) of Business Economics was the chief guest of the event. Senior Prof. M.M. Padmalal (Acting Vice Chancellor of the University), Prof. P.D. Nimal (Dean of the FMSC), academic staff of the department and the faculty, alumni members and undergraduates and postgraduates of the Department graced the event with their presence.

The conference was successfully concluded with the participation of prominent scholars as session chairs both locally and internationally from well-reputed universities, the Central Bank of 91传媒 and 91传媒 Customs. Thirty (30) selected abstracts of the postgraduates and undergraduates were presented at the conference and were published in the proceedings of the conference.

Selected abstracts will be published in the Conference Proceedings. Further, the best quality papers will be considered for the 91传媒n Journal of Business Economics (SLJBE), a refereed bi-annual journal published by the Department.

The inauguration ceremony of the conference was graced with the presence of Professor Chair of Business Economics Sampath Amarathunge (Chairman, University Grants Commission), as the chief guest of the conference. Senior Professor Sudantha Liyanage (Vice Chancellor), Professor P.D. Nimal (Dean of the Faculty), Heads of the Departments, academic staff of the Faculty, and undergraduate and postgraduate students of the Department also participated in the inauguration ceremony and research sessions.

Dr. Ranjith Ihalanayake (Head of Postgraduate Courses & Senior Lecturer in Economics and Finance, Victoria University Business School, Australia) contributed as the keynote speaker. Seven research sessions were chaired by both international and local scholars and practitioners. Three foreign professors; Professor Dr. Yuri Sadoi, Meijo University, Japan, Associate Prof. Dr. Eglantina HYSA, Head of the Department of Economics, Epoka University, Albania and Prof. Dr. Hiroshi Torii, Faculty of Business Management, Meijo University, Japan. joined as session chairs.

Dean and the professor from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, 91传媒 also joined as session chairs. Further, session chairs representing the Central Bank of 91传媒 and 91传媒 Customs also participated in the conference.

Thirty-three selected abstracts were presented at the conference and were published in the Proceedings Book of ACBE 2021.

Ltd.) participated as the eminent panelists for this online forum. The moderator of the session was Prof. P. J. Kumarasingha, Professor of the Department of Business Economics. The event was organized under the guidance of Dr. (Mrs.) M. A. K. Sriyalatha (Director-RCBEDS).
