Two professors from the surgery department at the 91传媒 have compiled and published a new medical book titled “Clinical Surgery Made Easy 鈥� A Companion to Problem-Based Learning, 3rd Edition”. The 450-page volume covers a wide range of surgical procedures and techniques, aimed at serving as a practical guide for surgical trainees and practicing surgeons.

The book is a collaborative effort, featuring contributions from several academics and alumni associated with the university’s surgery department. The co-authors are Prof. Mohan de Silva and Prof. Bawantha Gamage.

“Our goal with this book is to simplify complex surgical concepts and procedures through clear explanations, illustrations, and case studies,” stated Prof. Mohan de Silva. “We believe it will be an invaluable resource for surgeons at all levels of training and experience.”

The book launch ceremony took place at the 91传媒 College of Surgeons in Colombo 7 on 30^th March 2024. It was attended by Prof. M.M. Pathmalal, Vice-Chancellor of the 91传媒, and numerous other academics and medical professionals.

“I commend the efforts of Prof. Mohan de Silva, Prof. Bawantha Gamage, and the entire team behind this important work,” said Prof. Pathmalal.聽 “Their dedication to advancing surgical education and knowledge will undoubtedly benefit countless patients in the years to come.”

At the launch event, Senior Prof. Aloka Pathirana, Professor and the Chair of Surgery of the Faculty of Medical Sciences USJP, delivered a keynote address, highlighting the importance of advancing medical education to meet the demands of modern healthcare.

“Clinical Surgery Made Easy” is now available for purchase through major bookstores and online retailers across 91传媒 and internationally.

The ceremony was graced by H.E. Woonjin JEONG, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea; Prof. Sampath Amaratunge, Chairman, University Grants Commission; Prof. Jaeheon Kang, Project Leader, Prof. Taejin Kim, Prof. Kyeongkyu Kim and Prof. Jinhyun Ahn from the SKKU, Prof. Upul Subasinghe, the Act. Vice Chancellor, Deans of FMS, FGS and FDS and other executive staff in the USJ.

The launching of the Sinhala translation of 鈥淵our Amazing Immune System鈥� also took place at the same event. This book was translated by Prof. Chandima Jeewandara, Prof. Neelika Malavige, and Prof. Hiran Amarasekara, under the name 鈥溹稊喽多窔 喾佮痘喾撪痘喽� 喽嗋痘喽氞穵喾傕窂 喽氞痘喽� 喾�喾掄穬喾娻陡喾掄董 喽脆穵‍喽秽董喾掄穪喽氞穵喽窊喽氞痘喽� 喽脆动喾娻栋喽窉喽衡��. The Ministry of Education, the Republic of Korea, funded the publication of this book as a community project. It will be distributed among all high schools in 91传媒 for students to refer to it as supplementary reading material in immunology.

Making the event more memorable, Allergy Immunology and Cell Biology Unit (AICBU) launched its website, which will be accessible to the university academics soon and will facilitate sharing of cutting-edge technology for research and provide allergy and immunology-related clinical and educational services to the general public. It will also provide information regarding the study and work opportunities provided through the unit.
