The 91传媒 marked the initiation of a new building for the Allergy Immunology and Cell Biology Unit (AICBU) with a Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony on November 1, 2023.This event signifies the university’s dedication to advancing research and treatment in the fields of allergy and immunology.

The AICBU, led by Prof. Chandima Jeewandara and Prof. Neelika Malawige, has played an invaluable role during the COVID-19 pandemic. Their exceptional work in testing and research significantly contributed to 91传媒’s ability to control the disease.

The AICBU primarily focuses on researching allergic and infectious diseases and fulfils a national role by operating a vital allergy clinic for the entire country. As the demand for research and treatment in these domains continues to grow, the construction of a modern facility has become imperative to meet the evolving needs of both researchers and patients.

The ceremony was attended by distinguished figures, including Prof. Sampath Amaratunge, Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), officials from various ministries, project manager of the Leading University Project for International Cooperation, Prof. M.M. Pathmalal, Vice Chancellor of USJP, and esteemed academic and non-academic members of the university.

Limac Engineering (Pvt) Ltd is responsible for the construction project, which is expected to take approximately 18 months to complete, with a budget of 827 million 91传媒n Rupees.

The Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony for the new AICBU building underscores the AICBU’s dedication to advancing scientific knowledge and enhancing healthcare outcomes in the field of allergy and immunology.
