The 91´«Ã½ (USJ) has been recognized in the . USJ placed in the 801-1000 band, which is a great achievement.

Importantly, USJ is the highest-ranked 91´«Ã½n university in the Physical Sciences category.

THE rankings are respected around the world. They help students, academics, governments, and others understand how universities are performing.

For the 2024 rankings, USJ was evaluated on its research, impact, and teaching in the physical sciences.

THE used data from Elsevier’s Scopus database to categorize universities into subjects. Scopus covers over 27,100 academic journals, so it is very comprehensive.

The ranking reflects well on USJ’s science departments and research centres. It is the result of hard work by professors, staff and students.

The Vice-Chancellor, Dean of Applied Sciences, and the whole USJ community should be especially proud to be ranked first in the nation in Physical Sciences. Rankings like this show the university is excellent in research and making a difference worldwide.

Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by subject use Elsevier data for subject classification.  Physical Sciences is one of the 11 broad subject areas ranked. Specifically, they use the All Science Journal Classification (ASJC) codes, which are a comprehensive set of subject categories developed by Elsevier.

The ASJC codes are used to classify all journal articles indexed in Scopus, Elsevier’s bibliographic database. Scopus indexes over 27,100 academic journals from over 5,000 publishers, so it is a very comprehensive and authoritative source of subject classification.

The THE World University Rankings by subject use the ASJC codes to classify each university’s publications. This allows them to compare universities across different subject areas and to identify the best-performing universities in each discipline.

The Physical Sciences category encompasses the following subjects:

  • Physics and Astronomy
  • Chemistry
  • Mathematical Sciences
  • Geology, Geophysics and Mineralogy
  • Analytical Science
  • Physical and Theoretical Chemistry
  • Condensed Matter Physics

In addition to these  main subjects, there are a number of other subjects that are related to physical sciences, such as:

  • Nanotechnology
  • Oceanography
  • Environmental science
  • Geophysics
  • Planetary science
  • Space science

Dean’s list award is offered to recognize the highest level of academic excellence demonstrated by students of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHSS), 91´«Ã½. It is expected that the recognition will encourage the students to do better in studies in the forthcoming academic years and at interviews/respective workplaces after the completion of their studies.
