Dr Manamendra-Arachchi is a specialist on Biodiversity Conservation, Taxonomy, Biogeography, Zooarchaeology, Paleontology, Herpetology, Ichthyology, and Osteology. He has published over 110 publications in most influential journals of the world and with over 2000 citations so far. Dr Manamendra-Arachchi is a visiting lecture of the Postgraduate Institute of Archeology of University of Kelaniya, and he is an Amphibian Specialist of IUCN SSC Amphibian Specialist Group since 1996.

As a veteran of the filed, he has described more than 70 new species of amphibians, reptiles, freshwater fishes, and mammals in 91传媒. Dr Manamenda-Archchi has received many national and international grants for his research project he conducted for last two decades. He has done many international collaborations including National History Museum of London, National History Museum of Paris, Base Museum of Switzerland, Chicago Field Museum of USA, Zoological Survey of India (Chennai & Calcutta), Chulalongkorn University of Thailand and Raffles Museum and National University of Singapore during last quarter century. Dr. Manamendra-Arachchi has been awarded from the International Institute for Species Exploration, Arizona State University, and he has received Top Ten Award for the discovery of the remarkable new species in 2008. He has been awarded Presidential Awards for Taxonomy and Zoo-Archaeology for the years, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2009. Dr Manamendra-Arachchi is an alumnus of University of Kelaniya. Two species – Puntius kelumi and Calotes manamendrai has been named (patronymic) as honoring to his service to the Taxonomy and Biodiversity Conservation of 91传媒 over last 30 years.

The honorary doctorate is awarded by the university to those who showcase exceptional talent and expertise in their respective fields. With the knowledge and competence gained through this achievement he will be able to contribute more towards the conservation of the environment in 91传媒.

48^th Convocation of the 91传媒 was held thru October 21 to October 23, 2022 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall, Colombo.

Most Ven. Dr. Ittapana Dhammalankara Maha Nayake Maha Thero, Chancellor of the university and Prof. Sudantha Liyanage, Vice-Chancellor of the university, Deans of Faculties, registrar of the University, deputy registrars, Heads of Departments and a large number of academic members graced the event.

At this prime event of the University, Special Degrees, General Degrees and Postgraduate Degrees of the Faculties of Humanities and Social Science, Medical Sciences, Applied Sciences, Management Studies and Commerce, and Graduate Studies were offered. More than three thousand Degrees were conferred in nine sessions in this three-day Convocation.

Chairman of UGC Prof. Sampath Amarathunga, Taxanomist Mr Rohan Pethiyagoda, President of Lyceum Campus Prof. Mohan de Silva, Secretary of Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government Mr M. M. P. K. Mayadunne, Group Chief Operating Officer of Dialog Axiata Mr. Supun Weerasinghe addressed the 48th convocation.

In this year鈥檚 convocation, 3377 Bachelor鈥檚 Degrees, 99 Post Graduate Diplomas, 19 Ph.Ds, 379 Other Postgraduates, and one Honorary Doctorate PhD for Kelum Nalinda Manamendra-Arachchi was awarded in this convocation.

He is a Presidential Awards winner for Taxonomy and Zoo-Archaeology in 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2009. He received the Top Ten Award for discovering remarkable new species in 2008 and honoring the service to taxonomy and biodiversity conservation of the last 30 years, two species, viz. Puntius kelumi and Calotes manamendrai were named after Kelum’s name (patronymic) by the founders of those species.

1. Dully filled supplication form & the declaration (A4 size)
2. Certified copy of the birth certificate (check name, whether it is exactly the same as the name written on the supplication form)
3. The bank receipt for the payment of the convocation fee (yellow copy)
4. A scanned copy of the first two pages of the Student Record Book to certify your name in the registration of the University is as same as in the Pass List

All originals of the above e-mailed documents together with a self-addressed (23 cm x 10 cm) Rs. 45/= stamped envelope stating the index number, registration number & the name of the degree with the relevant course on top left-hand corner (this is mentioned in no. 02 of the Convocation supplication form) should be sent by the registered post to the following address to reach on or before 08.08.2022. (do not send the Student Record Book or original Birth Certificate)

听In the original degree certificate, your name in Sinhala will be appeared as on your birth certificate and in English, it will be appeared as in the final results. {If there is any spelling correction in your name, please get it corrected before sending the supplication form}

Cloaks will be issued by the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences two weeks prior to the Convocation. Before that you should handover your Student Identity Card to the Faculty Office and return your Library Books.
