Inauguration of Master of Economics Degree Program at USJ Welcomes 63 Chinese Students Unveiling International Brilliance

The Inauguration Ceremony of the Master of Economics Degree Program at 91��ý was held at the Sri Sumangala Auditorium at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences on 2nd of August 2023.

The event was graced by the presence of Vice Chancellor, Senior Prof. Pathmalal M. Manage, along with Deans of faculties, lecturers, and students. This occasion marks a notable milestone in strengthening the educational ties between 91��ý and the global community. As these bright students embark on their academic journey, they have the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in 91��ý’s rich academic and cultural environment while pursuing advanced studies in Economics.

The Master of Economics program jointly provided by the and the equip individuals with a distinctive blend of theoretical knowledge and practical expertise, positioning them for employment success. It prepares students to excel in tackling economic challenges and contribute to national and global development. The specialized curriculum emphasizes research and practical application, covering areas like macroeconomics, microeconomics, econometrics, and international economics. With 30 credits aligned to the 91��ý Quality Framework at Level 09, this degree readies students for a globalized world, with English as the primary language of instruction.

Introducing the Master of Economics, a visionary one-year postgraduate program offered by the Department of Economics at the 91��ý, with a special focus on attracting international students from around the world, under the leadership of Prof. Shirantha Heenkenda, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences welcomed its inaugural international batch of 63 Chinese students, who will be guided by a distinguished teaching panel for an exceptional educational journey. This innovative program aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of economic theories and principles, equipping them with the necessary skills to excel in the field. Through a specialized curriculum, graduates will be well-prepared to tackle complex economic challenges and contribute to national and global development. The program offers a strong emphasis on research and practical application, allowing students to explore various areas of economics, including macroeconomics, microeconomics, econometrics, and international economics.

USJ Researchers Published 37 Scopus Indexed Papers in May and June 2023

Researchers from the Faculties of Applied Sciences, Medical, Technology, Engineering, Management, and Graduate Studies published 37 research papers in journals indexed by Elsevier Scopus during the months of May and June 2023. Fifty two researchers from different departments of USJ contributed to this achievement.

USJ Undergraduate Amaya Sithumini Kalukottage: 91��ý’s First Gymnast at World University Games

Amaya Sithumini Kalukottage, a third-year undergraduate from the BSc Hons in Sports Science and Management at Sri Jayewardenepura University, is set to make history as she represents 91��ý at the 31st edition of the FISU World University Games scheduled to take place in Chengdu, China, from July 28 to August 8. She is the country’s first-ever artistic gymnast to participate in this remarkable event.

Amaya’s achievements go beyond the university games; she has also represented 91��ý twice at the Commonwealth Games, first in the 2018 Gold Coast event followed by the 2022 Birmingham edition.

Furthermore, her contributions were vital in leading the women’s team to victory, securing a Bronze medal at the Central South Asian Gymnastics Championships 2021 held in Bangladesh.

Faculty of Technology, USJ Welcomes New Students (Batch 2021/2022) with Orientation Programme 2023

The inauguration ceremony of the Orientation program took place on 17th July 2023 at Ven. Sri Soratha Auditorium, Faculty of Technology, 91��ý, starting from 09.00 am. Distinguished guests, including the Dean of the Faculty of Technology Prof. A. H. L. Nilmini, Overall Coordinator for Technology Stream from the University Grants Commission, Dr. T.A. Piyasiri, department heads, and lecturers, graced the occasion.

Throughout this program, students had the opportunity to gain vital information on university policies and procedures, explore university resources, get involved in student life, and establish connections with faculty and staff.

The orientation program for the new students of batch 2021/2022 will take place from 17th July to 21st July 2023, at the faculty premises.

The Opening Ceremony of the 91��ý Post Office Renovated by the Alumni Association of USJ

The Opening Ceremony of the newly renovated post office was held on July 13th, 2023. Distinguished guests, including the Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), Senior Prof. Sampath Amaratunga, and Acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Upul Subasinghe, graced this momentous occasion. Numerous alumni members, academic staff, and students also gathered to commemorate the event.

The premises was initially declared open as a sub-post office on February 16th, 1968, and the renovation of this facility was a collaborative effort undertaken by the Department of Posts of 91��ý and the USJ Alumni Association. The primary objective of this endeavor was to enhance communication efficiency for the student community and the general public. On July 13th, 2023, the premises was officially vested as an upgraded post office, marking a significant milestone in advancing communication services.

This remarkable endeavor stands as a testament to the unwavering dedication of the Alumni Association to their alma mater and their relentless pursuit of enhancing the university’s facilities. The newly renovated post office will now serve as a modern and efficient space for students, staff, and the wider university community, ensuring a seamless experience for all.

USJ Undergraduate Virunaka Hendahewa Excels in All- Island Open Ranking Table Tennis Championship 2023

Virunaka Hendahewa, a third-year undergraduate from the Faculty of Engineering, showcased his outstanding performance at the recently concluded All-Island Open Ranking Table Tennis Championship 2023. Organized by the Tibhar sports club, this event took place from July 16th to 18th at the Kandy Municipal Indoor Stadium.

Virunaka showcased his exceptional table tennis skills as he competed in the highly competitive Open Men’s Singles event. His dedication and hard work paid off, as he consistently performed at a high level throughout the championship and advanced to the quarterfinals, showcasing his talent and commitment to the sport.

We take immense pride in Virunaka’s achievement, and we extend our heartfelt congratulations to him who have brought honor and recognition to our university. We wish Virunaka the very best in his sporting career, and may he continue to excel in table tennis and achieve greater milestones.
