FHSS launches mobile app for staff and students

Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences launched mobile application enabling undergraduates and the academic members of the faculty to offer various of services.

The app was created by the department of Information and Communication Technology, and it offers users better experience with features of

Sending New Push Notifications to receive customized and academic year relevant news quickly, University phone directory to find official phone numbers Important information for both undergraduates and academic members, letting users to access their personal profiles, option of Login with the Faculty Email Credentials and the app is created with Following W3C Accessibility Standards.

App also provides specific features to the Academic Members, as search students by AR/AF numbers to review their academic performance. Undergraduates can check their own academic performance through the app.

App allows to the undergraduates who still have not received their AR/AF numbers (Freshers) to have virtual tour of the university, check fundamentals to learn about the university and faculty

The mobile app is available to download in both Google Play and App Store for both android and iOS devises.

FHSS introduces incubator space for Journalism students

Student and staff members of Mass Communication of the Department of Mass Communication of the Faculty of Humanities and Social sciences received an Incubator space on Monday, 3^rd of October 2022, for developing their professional, communication and journalism skills aiming on undergraduates who are intending to pursue their career in the field of Journalism.

Faculty received this Incubator space as a result of the collaboration with the HELVETAS Interco-operation gGmbH (HELVETAS). FHSS singed the MOU between HELVETAS on last 17^th of August 2022. The Incubator Space was created as part of the Incubator Space for Promoting Information Right and Freedom of Expression (InSPIRE) project funded by the European Union and implemented by HELVETAS in partnership with 91��ý Development Journalist Forum (SDJF) with the goals of promoting and respecting the freedom of expression, by empowering a community of youth. The space is equipped with media equipment, conference facilities, a lounge area, co-working and broadcasting space to enhance the knowledge and technical skills related to media and communications industry.

The occasion was distinguished by Senior Professor Sudantha Liyanage, the Vice Chancellor of University of Sri Jayawardanapura; Professor Shirantha Heenkenda, the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences; Professor. Kusumalatha Lankamulla, Head of Department of Sinhala and Mass Communication; Dr. Senani Harischandra, Coordinator – Mass Communication & Senior Lecturer Department of Sinhala and Mass Communication; Dr. Senesh Dissanaike, Senior Lecturer, Department of Sinhala and Mass Communication; Ms. Imesha Dharmasena, Senior Lecturer, Department of Sinhala and Mass Communication; Prof. G. Weerasinghe, Department of Economics; Ms. Subhashi Dissanayake – Country Director, HELVETAS; Ms. Chandula Kumbukage – Project Manager, HELVETAS; Mr. Mohamad Azad – Programme Director, SDJF; Ms. Ramona Stephen – Project Officer, HELVETAS; Mr. Selvaraj Selvamanikkam – Finance Officer, HELVETAS and Ms. Ayodhya Krishani – Communications Officer, SDJF and Mass Communications undergraduate students.

The event of handing over of Incubator Space was followed by signing of agreement from both the parties of pertaining to usability and maintenance of Incubator Space, handing over of media equipment, presenting of four learning modules developed under the project and an orientation to students on the Incubator Space.

Researchers from Science, Medical, Technology, Engineering, Management, Computing and Graduate Studies Faculties published Thirty-three research papers in Journals indexed by Elsevier Scopus during the month July 2022. Thirty-five researchers from USJ contributed to this achievement. Developing an app to share rides among USJ staff

Innovation, Invention and Venture Creation Council of USJ invites an individual or a team of USJ staff to create an app to communicate riding information among colleagues AKA a Ride Sharing app. This will aid USJ staff to commute to the USJ premises by sharing their vehicle with others and assist to minimize their traveling hassle during the fuel crisis in 91��ý.

Time frame assigned to this project completion is one month, and USJ is looking for the candidates who are interested in initiating this project before 5th July 2022.��

The Target user group of this product is all USJ staff, including��Academics, Administrative, Academic Supportive and Non-Academics.

Developers will automatically get included into the final evaluation procedure of IICE-2021 Competition, will get a certificate of service recognition signed by the Vice-Chancellor, and recognition and assistance by 91��ý Inventors Commission to further develop and commercialize the product.��

Mobile app/Web app may use the USJNET credentials��to restrict app usage to staff and may be hosted on a virtual machine at the Centre for IT Services USJ provided it’s resource footprint is law, Also, should use Open Resources/Maps as much as possible and avoid features��such as google place search which may add to the recurrent cost of the services.��
