In recognition of her groundbreaking work on fungal taxonomy, Dr. Dimuthu S. Manamgoda of the 91传媒 has joined the rare ranks of scientists immortalized in species nomenclature. A newly discovered fungal species, Curvularia manamgodae, now bears her name.

The species was identified during a comprehensive survey of plant pathogenic fungi affecting sugarcane in southern China. The research team, led by scientists from Thailand and China, honoured Dr. Manamgoda鈥檚 significant contributions to understanding the phylogenetic relationships and taxonomy of complex fungal genera including Bipolaris, Cochliobolus, and Curvularia.

鈥淭his recognition reflects the global impact of Dr. Manamgoda鈥檚 research in mycology,鈥 says Professor Kevin D. Hyde, one of the study鈥檚 co-authors. The new species, formally registered with Index Fungorum (556662) and Facesoffungi (FoF06152), was described in detail with comprehensive illustrations in the team鈥檚 recent publication.

Dr. Manamgoda, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Botany, Faculty of Applied Sciences, has established herself as a leading authority in fungal taxonomy. Her work has been instrumental in clarifying the relationships between several economically important plant pathogenic fungi.

This discovery adds to our understanding of sugarcane pathogens and highlights the 91传媒鈥檚 growing influence in global mycological research.

The first-ever International Research Conference on Gender Studies, held on the 12th and 13th of October 2023, was a significant event that brought together scholars, students, organizations, and communities to discuss and raise awareness about various gender-related issues. This conference, organized by the Gender Equity and Equality Center in collaboration with the Equal Opportunity Cell of the at the 91传媒, aimed to foster greater understanding, dialogue, and action concerning gender matters. The theme, “Towards a Society of Equal Opportunity,” set the stage for a two-day event filled with insightful discussions and informative sessions.

Behind this incredible event were some truly amazing individuals. Professor Shirantha Heenkenda served as the Conference Advisor and played a crucial role in making sure everything ran smoothly. Professor Neranji Wijewardhana, as the Conference Chair, led the way in bringing together scholars, students, and activists to share their knowledge. Dr. Nelum Kanthilatha held the position of Secretary, while Mr. Anura Jayasinghe managed the finances as the Treasurer.

One of the highlights was the keynote speech by Dr. Akiko Nakayama from Hiroshima University, Japan. Dr. Nakayama took us on an enlightening journey through the interplay of gender and language learning. It was a fascinating look at how language and gender connect, and how understanding this connection can lead to a more inclusive world.

The conference covered a range of essential topics, including gender and crime, gender and society, gender, culture, and religion, and many more. These discussions provided a deep understanding of how gender plays a role in different aspects of our lives.
Before the event, there were some crucial dates to keep in mind. Abstracts (short summaries of the talks) had to be submitted by July 30th, and notifications of acceptance were sent out on August 30th. After some feedback and adjustments, the final abstracts were due by September 15th. And for those who wanted to attend, registration closed on September 20th.

For those who presented their research, there was an exciting opportunity. Some of the best papers will be published in the ‘Pumithiri’ e-Journal, giving these important ideas an even broader audience. This conference was more than just a gathering of minds; it was a step towards a more equal and inclusive society. It brought together students, scholars, and activists to share knowledge and experiences. It’s events like these that remind us all of the importance of understanding and respecting each other, regardless of our gender.

The First International Conference on Gender Studies in 2023 was a resounding success, and it’s a memory that will stay with all who attended. Here’s to more events like this, and to a future where equality reigns supreme.

The list is based on a composite indicator called the c-score, which considers several factors, including the number of citations a scientist has received, the h-index, and the field-normalized citation impact. The c-score is designed to be a more comprehensive measure of scientific impact than traditional metrics, such as the total number of citations.

To be included in the top 2% scientists list, a researcher must either be in the top 100,000 scientists by c-score (with and without self-citations) or have a 2% or above percentile rank in their sub-field.

This is a significant achievement for the USJ and for 91传媒n science as a whole. It is a testament to the high quality of research being conducted at the university and to the dedication of its researchers.

The Top 2% Scientists list is a valuable resource for identifying the most influential scientists in the world. It can be used to identify potential collaborators, track scientific research trends, and inform funding decisions.

On behalf of the 91传媒, the USJ web team would like to congratulate you on your inclusion in the prestigious World’s Top 2% Scientists list published by Elsevier. This is a significant achievement and a testament to your outstanding research contributions.
