On February 6th, 2024, the 91ý hosted the 10th International Conference on Multidisciplinary Approaches (ICMA), organized by the Faculty of Graduate Studies (FGS). The event served as a platform for academics and industry professionals to exchange insights and experiences in various fields, contributing to national and global development.

The conference covered diverse disciplines including Engineering, Physical Sciences, Health Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences, and Management & Finance. The 91ý proudly announces the appointment of Professor P.P.Rasika Perera as the new Dean of the , effective November 13, 2023. A distinguished scholar in Clinical Biochemistry, Prof. Rasika Perera brings a wealth of expertise and a stellar academic background to his new role.

Prof. Rasika Perera obtained his MBBS with Honors from USJ in 1998 and later earned a PhD in Biochemistry from the same institution in 2009. His commitment to advancing knowledge in his field is further demonstrated by his active membership in esteemed professional organizations, including the Forum for Ethics Review Committees of Asia and the Western Pacific (FERCAP), the Association of Clinical Biochemists of India (ACBI), and The College of Biochemists of 91ý, among others.

With a specialization in Clinical Biochemistry and Nutritional assessment, Prof. Rasika Perera has been recognized for his outstanding contributions. In 2021, he received the Staff Award for Excellence in Teaching from the Faculty of Medical Sciences at the 91ý.

Applications are invited for the Master of Science in Industrial Organic Chemistry (MSc Indus Org Chem, SLQF 10) / Master of Industrial Organic Chemistry (MIndusOrgChem, SLQF 9) / Postgraduate Diploma in Industrial Organic Chemistry (PGDip Indus Org Chem, SLQF 8) offered by the Department of Chemistry, USJ. These new postgraduate programs have been designed to provide necessary scientific knowledge and practical skills in the fields of organic chemistry / industrial organic chemistry for graduates / government / industrial employees who are engaged in, or seeking career opportunities in industries, academic institutes, research institutes and scientific services in both government and private sectors. The MSc in Industrial Organic Chemistry Degree consists of 25 credits of coursework, 4 credits of practical classes, industrial visits, seminars, workshops and case studies. In addition, this program provides an opportunity to carry out one-year full-time industrial-related research (30 credits) at national as well as international levels. The Master of Industrial Organic Chemistry is a one-year degree program without a research component. The Postgraduate Diploma consists of 25 credits of coursework, 4 credits of practical classes, industrial visits and seminars.

Minimum Admission Requirements:

To be eligible for admission to this program an applicant must possess one of the following qualifications;

• BSc Special or Honours degree (SLQF 6) in Chemistry
• BSc General Degree (SLQF 5) with Chemistry as a subject
• BSc Special or Honours Degree (SLQF 6) with Chemistry as a subject
• BSc Degree (SLQF 5 or 6) in Chemical Engineering / Food Science or Agriculture / Pharmacy and Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) with Chemistry as a subject / relevant subject area
• BSc Honours in Fisheries and Marine Sciences or Marine and Freshwater Sciences (SLQF 6) with Chemistry as a subject / relevant subject area
• Equivalent qualification recognized by the University Grants Commission
• Equivalent qualification accepted by the University Senate, 91ý

Applications are invited from interested candidates for the Degree of MPhil (Business) offered through the Department of Business Administration, Faculty of Graduate Studies, 91ý. MPhil (Business) is a Master’s by thesis which aims to facilitate students to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills required to be independent researchers and opens up a learner-centred pathway leading to a rigorous research project in the field of Business. Once enrolled students are required to successfully complete four non-credit taught courses and two workshop series parallel to which their research project will commence under the guidance of a supervisor.

Eligible for Registration:

Applicants who possess one of the following minimum qualifications and good knowledge of English are eligible to apply for the Degree of MPhil (Business) programme:

  1. Has a First‐Class or Second‐Class (Upper Division) Special/Honours Degree in Business Administration/Management or any other field in the broad area of Management Studies (equivalent to the level 6 of SLQF) with a substantial research component;
  2. Has a First-Class or Second-Class (Upper Division) Special/Honours Degree in Sociology, Psychology, Anthropology or similar discipline with a minimum of 30 credits in the broad area of Management Studies (equivalent to the level 6 of SLQF) and with a substantial research component;
  3. Has an M.Sc. (Management), MBA or any other Master’s degree in the broad area of Management Studies with a substantial research component (equivalent to the level 10 of SLQF);
  4. Has an M.A. in Sociology, Psychology, Anthropology or any other Master’s degree in a similar discipline with a substantial research component related to the broad area of Management Studies (equivalent to the level 10 of SLQF);
  5. Has a First-Class or Second-Class (Upper Division) Special Degree in Business Administration/Management or any other field in the broad area of Management Studies with at least three-year experience as a researcher or academic and/or with proven track record of publications in the broad area of Management Studies;
  6. Has an M.Sc. (Management), MBA or any other Master’s degree in the broad area of Management Studies (equivalent to the level 9 or above of SLQF) with at least one year experience as a researcher or academic and/or with proven track record of publications in the broad area of Management Studies;
  7. Has an M.A. in Sociology, Psychology, Anthropology or any other Master’s degree in a similar discipline (equivalent to the level 9 or above of SLQF) with at least one year experience as a researcher or academic and/or with proven track record of publications in the broad area of Management Studies;
  8. Has a Postgraduate Diploma in Management or in a similar discipline (equivalent to the level 8 of SLQF) with at least two-year experience as a researcher or academic and/or with proven track record of publications in the broad area of Management Studies;
  9. Has any other qualifications that can be accepted by the Senate of the University according to the minimum admission requirement/s of SLQF.

Computing has become an indispensable skill today both locally and globally. This program has been designed to cover the fundamental concepts of Computer Science as well as in-depth knowledge of specific areas of Computer Science as highlighted below to develop the necessary skills of students to produce innovative solutions to emerging complex problems in computing.

Targeted for those who are seeking qualifications:

  • to pursue PhDs
  • to move into computing discipline from other disciplines like Engineering
  • to join with local/foreign Software Engineering, Data Science, Networking, Cybersecurity or related industries
  • to be a lecturer/teacher in Computer Science or IT

Eligibility:

A bachelor’s degree in Computing, Engineering, Physical Science OR any other degree in related disciplines from a recognized university (with subject to the approval of the senate of the university).

For Full Course Details and Entry Qualifications:

Duration: 1 – year (Taught) / 2 – years (Research)

Course Fee
Rs. 490,000/- (for locals)
US $ 3,000/- (for SAARC countries),
US $ 5,500/- (for Non SAARC countries)

In addition, the following fee should be payable at the time of registration.
