The Faculty of Allied Health Sciences of the 91ý (USJ) successfully organized the International Research Conference in Health Sciences (IRCHS) 2023 on the theme of “Innovation, collaboration and experientia: for the sustainable development of health and well-being”. The conference was held on 31st of March 2023 as a hybrid event, with online sessions and a ceremony at the senate board room of USJ.

The conference aimed to provide a platform for researchers, academics, professionals and students to share their knowledge and experience in various fields of health sciences. The conference tracks covered topics such as education and use of technology in health sciences, nursing management and health promotion, discovery, development, and quality use of medicines, and health, nutrition, and laboratory diagnostics.

The chief guest of the conference was Snr Prof Susirith Mendis, of Faculty of Medicine General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University. Other distinguished guests included VC Prof Upul Subhasinghe, Dean of the Faculty Prof D I Uluwaduge and deans of other faculties, department heads and other invited speakers.

The keynote speaker of the conference was Dr S M K S Senevirathna of Department of Nursing and Midwifery of FAHS. He delivered a speech on “Innovation, collaboration and experientia: for the sustainable development of health and well-being”. The orator of the conference was Prof D I Uluwaduge, Dean of the FAHS. He spoke on “The role of allied health sciences in achieving the sustainable development goals”.

A symposium was also held along with the conference on “Sustainable development of health and well-being”. Three eminent speakers shared their insights on various aspects of this theme. Prof Leanne Boyd, of Monash University & La Trobe University, Executive Director-Learning and Teaching Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer made a speech on “Contemporary challenges for the nursing and midwifery profession”. Dr Hellyza Moedina Sjwani- Co-chair FIP Environmental Sustainability Policy Committee (2023) Co-founder/Co-chair of Canadian Association of Pharmacy for the Environment, Board Member of Pharmacists Without Border Canada delivered a speech on “Sustainability environment and planetary health; role of the pharmacist, pharmaceutical scientists and pharmacy educators”. Ms Magen Colemen-Compliance Manager of Department of Microbiology and Immunology, University of Otago delivered a speech on “Laboratory safety and compliance, with a focus on human element”.

The conference was well attended by participants from both local and international institutions. The conference also featured poster presentations, oral presentations and workshops on various topics related to health sciences. The conference concluded with a vote of thanks by the organizing committee and a certificate distribution ceremony for the participants.

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHSS) of the 91ý held the 8th International Research Conference on Humanities and Social Sciences (IRCHSS 2023) on 16th (Thursday) and 17th (Friday) March 2023 successfully. The conference was conducted as a hybrid event, with the inauguration ceremony held at the 91ý senate board room, while the speeches and presentations were held virtually.

The conference, which was guided by the theme “Seeing through Testing Times and the Future,” aimed at providing a platform for renowned intellectuals and emerging scholars to exchange and share their experiences and research on all aspects of Humanities and Social Sciences. The conference encouraged research that investigates both the challenges and opportunities posed by the current socio-economic situations and analyzes their implications to propose strategic plans.

IRCHSS 2023 hosted several tracks, including Buddhist Studies, Religion and Philosophy, Communication, Media and Society, Economics, Governance and Development, Geography and Environment, History, Culture and Heritage, Language and Literature, Technology, Innovation, and Education, Theoretical and Applied Linguistics, and English Language Teaching. The conference also had a special symposium on English Language Teaching and Learning and welcomed abstracts pertaining to all aspects of English Language Teaching and Learning.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by the presence of Mr. Tetsuta Yamuda as the Chief Guest, Prof. S M C U P Subasinghe, Acting Vice Chancellor of the 91ý, Keynote Speaker Prof. Rajiva Wijesinha, Emeritus Professor of Sabaragamuwa University, and Prof. Shirantha Heenkenda – Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHSS) as the guests of honor. The conference also had several other senior professors, professors, senior lecturers, lecturers, and temporary lecturers attached to the FHSS on 16th of March.

The conference also featured several invited speakers, including Keynote Speaker Prof. Rajiva Wijesinha, Emeritus Professor of Sabaragamuwa University, 91ý, Plenary Speaker Prof. Charmalie Nahallage, Department of Anthropology, 91ý, and Plenary Speaker Prof. Rajesh Bhatt, Department of Linguistics, University of Massachusetts at Amherst, USA.

Dr. Pannila Ananda Nayaka Thero, Abbot, Aththanagalla Rajamaha Viharaya, Aththanagalla, Houston Buddhist Vihara in USA, Theravada Buddhist Vihara in Taiwan, and Secretary of Dharma Vijaya Buddhis Vihara in Los Angeles, USA as the Guest of Honour.

Professor Shirantha Heenkenda, the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Ven. Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce (FMSC) of 91ý has conducted its 19th International Conference on Business Management (ICBM) on the theme of “Equitable Recovery Amidst Economic Crisis: Post-Pandemic Challenges and the Way Forward” on December 8, 2022

Opening ceremony of the conference inaugurated with Senior Professor Sampath Amaratunge, Chairman of the University Grant Commission, Senior Professor Sudantha Liyanage, Vice Chancellor of the 91ý, and ProfessorP. D. Nimal, Dean of the aculty of Management Studies and Commerce and with other Deans of Faculties of USJ at the Senate Boardroom.

This conference intended to create an avenue where scholars and practitioners could share their research findings and experience on the proposed theme, uncovering potential future research projects on a wider scope regarding managing crises, and strengthening collaboration among scholars, practitioners, and other stakeholders for feasible joint-projects, funding, and for identifying publication avenues.

Along with the conference there were PhD Colloquium held in the symposium. Inauguration Ceremony of VURD – 5th Vidyodaya Undergraduate Research Day of Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences – 2021 was held on 14th December 2021 at the auditorium of the Faculty.
The Keynote Speaker, Rev. Snr. Prof. M Dhammajothi, Director, Post Graduate institute – Pali and Buddhist Studies of the University of Kelaniya, asserted that modern educational culture gives predominance to critical thinking rather than merely following the textbooks.
Prof.Sudantha Liyanage, Vice-Chancellor of the USJ, in his speech, pointed out the significance of Applied Social Sciences and encouraged the budding researchers to continuously engage in research work.
Prof.Shirantha Heenkenda, Dean of the FHSS, uttered that University and the Faculty are continuously striving to create a research culture which has resulted in creating an exemplary image among the university crowd as well as in the general public.
The best researches were awarded at the Inauguration ceremony as well.

The first International Conference on Innovation and Emerging Technologies 2021 (ICIET 2021) took place on 25th – 26th of November 2021. Virtually. The inauguration ceremony which took place in the Faculty premises was held in a modest manner adhering to the COVID-19 prevention regulations required by the Government.

Sr. Prof. Sampath Amaratunge, Chairman, University Grants Commission, Sr. Prof. Sudantha Liyanage, Vice-Chancellor, 91ý, Prof. Nilmini Liyanage, Dean Faculty of Technology 91ý, The Deans of the 91ý and other senior administrative staff members along with the General Co-chairs of the conference Dr. Dhanushka Udayanga and Dr. Akila Wijethunge, and the members of the organizing committee and staff were present at the occasion

During the course of the inauguration ceremony the history of the Faculty and its humble beginnings were expounded upon in order to appreciate the journey of the Faculty to its current status.

The conference which took place amidst a global pandemic operated under the timely theme of: “Technological transformation towards a smart future” which discussed the evolution of technology and how its advancement had aided these difficult times and the way forward.

The ICIET 2021 showcased cutting-edge research in a broad spectrum of topics that reflected a multi-disciplinary approach, covering up-and-coming interest areas such as AI, robotics, food technology, mechatronics, and so much more.

The conference received over 200 papers which were reviewed and vetted for their suitability and excellence. Prior to the proceedings of the Conference several Special Interest Group Sessions covering a variety of timely topics such as Climate Resilient Agriculture and Food Security, Artificial Intelligence and Nanomaterials for Industrial Applications and Blockchain beyond Cryptocurrency took place.

Several workshops were also conducted covering a wide range of industry-focused Technology. The two-day conference program included three keynotes from prominent academic and industrial leaders Dr Mahesha Ranasoma, CEO, Global Rubber Industries, Professor Keitaro Naruse, Robot Engineering Laboratory, the School of Computer Science and Engineering, the University of Aizu,” and Mr. Thomas Muller, Senior Vice President [Technical], Nestle Lanka PLC.

The 5th International Conference on Real Estate Management and Valuation (ICREMV 2021) organized by the Center for Real Estate Studies (CRES), the research arm of the Department of Estate Management and Valuation, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, 91ý was successfully held on 7th and 8th of October 2021 via Zoom as a virtual conference, under the theme of “SMART Real Estate: Towards Unmet Socio-Economic Needs”. The conference was chaired by Dr. Prathap Kaluthanthri, and the co-secretaries of ICREMV 2021 were Prof. (Rtd). Janakie Edirisinghe and Dr. Chameera Udawattha. The conference was well-received by an audience of 500 plus participants including practitioners, academics and students.

The key events of ICREMV 2021 were the Inauguration, Academic Session, Industry Dialog, and Real Estate Talk. The conference was reinforced in organizing with the collaboration of both academic and industry partners. The academic partner of the conference was the School of Architecture and Design, King Mongkut’s University of Technology, Thonburi, Thailand. The collaborative partners were the Government Valuation Department, Urban Development Authority, Colombo Municipal Council, Institute of Valuers of 91ý, Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors 91ý, EMV RCB Club and EMV Crew.

First session of the First Day of the Conference (07th October 2021) – The Inauguration was graced by the presence of several dignitaries: Chief Guest – Senior Professor (Chair) Sampath Amaratunge, Chairman, University Grant Commission, Guest of Honour – Senior Professor Sudantha Liyanage, Vice-Chancellor, 91ý, Professor P. D. Nimal, Dean, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, 91ý and Dr. (Mrs.) T. G. U. P. Perera, Head, Department of Estate Management and Valuation of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, 91ý.

Senior Professor (Chair) R. G. Ariyawansa, Department of Estate Management and Valuation, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, 91ý, made a special speech at the inauguration under the topic, “Reflections of SMART Real Estate”.

The inauguration session was glorified by the Keynote Speaker, Professor Neil Crosby, Professor of Real Estate, Department of Real Estate and Planning, University of Reading, United Kingdom, one of the renowned professor in the field of real estate, under the theme of “International Real Estate Valuation Theory, Policy and Practice”.

Second session of the First Day of the Conference (07th October 2021) – The Academic Session aimed to discuss contemporary and long-term impacts of COVID 19 on the real estate market and its implication for real estate professions. The conference invited research scholars to publish their scientific work under the different tracks of the conference. The Academic Session was held as two successful parallel sessions with two insightful session keynote speeches followed by 10 best academic paper presentations. The topic of the Session I keynote speech was “How the Urban Real Estate Economy Is Shaping After the COVID 19 Pandemic”, delivered by Dr. Shanaka Herath, School of Built Environment, Faculty of Design, Architecture & Building, University of Technology Sydney, Australia and the Session II keynote speech was delivered by Dr. Kanjanee Budthimedhee, School of Architecture and Design, King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, Thailand, under the theme of “Creating Shared Values of Urban Waterfront Real Estate: A Case Study of Bangkok Canal Network”.

First session of the Second Day of the Conference (08th October 2021) – The Industry Dialogue consisted of the delivery of four insightful speeches by industry experts along with a panel discussion under the valuable and timely theme of “Resilience and Adaptability of Hospitality Real Estate: Lessons and Strategies in the context of Hotel Valuation Techniques”. The dignitaries who joined the session are:

Second session of the Second Day of the Conference (08th October 2021) – Real Estate Talk was aiming at sharing knowledge and building the relationship between academia and industry practitioners. The cross-sector panelists held a discourse around the conference theme: “The Next Wave of Real Estate Growth” in which the audience could listen and interact. The panel consisted of the following dignitaries:

, organized annually by the Faculty of Graduate Studies of the 91ý is a forum to bring together academics and industry professionals engaged in multidisciplinary research & development to discuss innovative ideas and diverse topics in a multidisciplinary approach. This is an opportunity for them to share knowledge and experiences towards national and global development.

7th International Conference on Multidisciplinary Approaches 2020 was held on 08th December 2020 at the senate board room of 91ý under the topic “Multidisciplinary Approach to Overcome Challenges posed by Covid-19 – Towards National & Global Development”. Senior professor Sudantha Liyanage : Vice-Chancellor, 91ý graced the event as the Chief Guest while Mr. Robert Juhkam, Resident Representative, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Mr. Thorsten Bargfrede, Deputy Head of Mission, Delegation of the European Union to 91ý and Maldives delivered the guest speeches. Prof. M. Pathmalal; Dean, Faculty of Graduate Studies, Prof. Laleen Karunanayake; Dean, Faculty of Applied Sciences, Prof. Hiran Amarasekara, Prof. Hemanthi Ranasinghe, heads of departments, academic and non-academic staff members also participated in the conference.
