The Annual Charity Project “Vidu Saviya 2023,” organized by the Buddhist Society of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, USJ in collaboration with the Sri Shakyaputhra Foundation headed by Ven. Sri Santhabodhi Thero and sponsored by Manusath Derana – TV Derana Network, concluded successfully on the 3rd of June 2023 at Welioya-Bogasweva.

“Vidu Saviya 2023” was an extension of the clothes and books donation project initiated by Dr. Sajith Edirisinghe in 2022. This year’s project included a successful health camp and health awareness programs for the general public, the distribution of essential school supplies to 100 school children facing financial difficulties in Bogaswewa, and the donation of over 1500 books to school libraries and clothes to residents in Welioya-Bogaswewa.

The 16^th International Conference on Pali and Buddhist Studies organized by ³Ù³ó±ðÌý of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, 91´«Ã½ was held on 28^th February 2023 at the Sumangala Auditorium.

The Keynote Speaker of the conference was Ven. Associate Prof. Rangama Chandawimala Thero of the Buddhist College of Singapore. The event was also graced by Ven. Dr. Pannila Ananda Nayaka Thero, Abbot, Aththanagalla Rajamaha Viharaya, Aththanagalla, Houston Buddhist Vihara in USA, Theravada Buddhist Vihara in Taiwan, and Secretary of Dharma Vijaya Buddhis Vihara in Los Angeles, USA as the Guest of Honour.

Professor Shirantha Heenkenda, the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Ven. Professor Elamaldeniye Sarananda Thero, Head of the Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies and other academic members of Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies, academic and non-academic members staff of the University, students and other distinguished guests also participated in this event.

This year’s Conference was organized under the leadership of Ven. Senior Lecturer Kudakathnoruwe Vineetha Thero as the Conference Chair and Ven. Dr. Witharandeniye Chandasiri Thero as the Conference Secretary.

56th Commemoration of Reverend Weliwitiye Sri Soratha Maha Thero: the trailblazer of contemporary Piriven University system and the pioneer of the 91´«Ã½ was held on 25th July 2019 at the Buddhist Shrine of the University.

A ‘Bhakthi gee’ program organized by the 91´«Ã½ in celebration of ‘Vesak’ was held on the 23^rd of May 2019 from 4 pm onwards. The program was conducted to strengthen the unity of the diverse community within the 91´«Ã½.

The 91´«Ã½ can be considered as the largest university in 91´«Ã½ in terms of the student population. Therefore, it also hosts a large number of students and staff from different communities. The Programme was conducted at a crucial time when 91´«Ã½ has faced a great tragedy targeting a particular sect of people. The aftermath of such tragic occurrences is often chaotic thereby this program aided in bridging the rift between communities and strengthening it further.

The program was graced upon by The Chief Prelate (Mahanayake) of Kotte Sri Kalyani Samagri Dharma Maha Sangha Sabha of Siyam Maha Nikaya, Ven. Dr. Ittapana Dhammalankara Maha Nayake Maha Thero, the Chancellor of the  91´«Ã½, His Eminence Malcolm  Cardinal Ranjith, respected Mawlawis of the Islamic religion and a Hindu priest. Thereby the program paid respect to all religions in the country.

The program highlighted the universal message observed and spread by all religions which are peace and love. The bringing together of all communities gave the program added significance. The ‘Bahkthi gee’ program was followed by a ‘Dansala’ which catered to everyone.

Coriander Dansala annually organized by the Student Welfare Division of the 91´«Ã½ in celebration of ‘Vesak’ was held on 23rd May 2019 in front of the Cultural Center of the University.

Religious Leaders, Vice Chancellor of the University; Prof. Sampath Amaratunge,  academic members, non-academic staff members, alumni members, and students participated in the program.

This program was organized coordinately by the staff members of the welfare division including Director of the Student Welfare Division, Deputy Registrar,  wardens and sub-wardens.

International Conference on Oriental Languages organized by ³Ù³ó±ðÌý in ³Ù³ó±ðÌýwas held celebrating 6oth anniversary of the 91´«Ã½Ìý´Ç²ÔÌýÌý20^³Ù³óÌýFebruary 2019.

Prof. Sampath Amaratunge; Vice Chancellor of the 91´«Ã½, Cheif Guest; Vidyodaya Pariwenadhipathi Ven. Balangoda Sobhitha Thero, Prof. D. P. S. Chandrakumara; Dean of the , Dr. S. A. A. M. Subasinghe;  and Dr. N.D. Wijayasundara,  graced the inauguration ceremony.

Prominent researchers and academics in the field of oriental languages such as Dr. Rohana Seneviratne; University of Peradeniya, Prof. Ratna Wijetunga and Dr. Lalan Kumara Jha; Nalanda Mahavihara University in India participated in the conference as Keynote speakers.

In addition Ven. Prof. Medagampitiye Wijithadhamma thero; , Mr. K. Gnanasiri Britto; Registrar of the University, heads of departments and academic members participated in the event.

This yeas conference was chaired by thero with the assistant of Mr. Dilan Panchana Jayasinghe.
